"Straight" stitch working with same tension setting as "Reverse". Straight stitch appears normal with topstitch, and bobbin side appears normal. When I perform "Reverse" stitch the (large) thread "twists" into a tiny knot with the bobbin thread making a little "nub" at each reverse stitch. Both threads are "left hand". Juki LU-563 Heavy Leather (0.175) #24 Needle TopStitch Thread (135?) Bobbin (75?) I'm definitely "outta-my-league" here...SmartPhone pics say "Max size exceeded"?

Hi guys, I don't know if I'm posting in the right place, but here goes. I have a singer 111w155 I'm using T208 thread with a #23 leather needle on 1/8 thick chrome tanned leather and thick poly webbing (about 1/8th thick) sewing them together. If I stitch at a faster speed I get little if any looping underneath. I would prefer no looping of course... Here is the real problem, if I slow down or stop or just stitch slower I get big loops underneath. Also if I turn a sharp corner, you guessed it, I get a loop. To fix this I have replaced the tension group. That helped a little bit, my old tension was pretty beat... but I still have the looping just not AS bad. I have fiddled with the tension spring, that didn't cure it. I tried different sized needles, nope, didn't work. I have re-threaded the machine, nope, didn't work. In the photo you can see where I slowed down, loops, and where I sewed faster, no loops. I know someone posted about this a while back but I cant find that post. So... Any ideas on how to get this machine to stop making big loop underneath? Thank you for your time.

Hello! I'm going mad trying to figure this out on my own. I purchased a used Neel's Saddlery machine in Iceland and it's been passed through at least two sets of hands before coming to me so the manual and bobbin cover has been lost. I unfortunately have no idea what exact model I have since it has no identifications that I can see. The issue I'm having is that it pulls the bottom thread through to the top of my work and nothing I do seems to fix the issue. I've tried googling the most common issues, threading it right, using the right thread, tightening the tensioner on the bobbin, loosening the tensioners on the top, oiling the machine from top to bottom, change the needle and nothing seems to help. I've put off ordering a new manual from Neel's since the shipping to Iceland would be so expensive from the US (I'll do it if that's the only thing that can help me fix the issue). Any thoughts or advice?

Hey everyone, this is my first post on this wonderful forum but after much searching I haven't been able to find any posts that address this specific issue. I feel like I've tried so many things to fix the problem but its a bit of a mystery to me at this point so if anyone has advice I'd love to hear! For context I work mostly with soft upholstery type leather, with a small business doing custom jobs - bags, accessories, products with decorative appliqué and such. Working with a Juki model LU1510N-7 and Cansew Tex 70 bonded nylon thread. The needles are generally 135 x 15 R size 19 and are changed regularly. I have been having the problem of intermittent 'knots' appearing on the underside of the leather - these are made of the needle thread over-twisted around its self to form a tight ball of thread which when pulled and unravelled leaves a loop of several stitch lengths worth of thread on the underside of the leather. There is no fraying or catching of the thread as it goes along the thread path from cone to needle, and the bobbin thread seems to be running smoothly as well. I've tried different cone placements and thread paths as well to try to get the thread to feed as smoothly as possible off the cone. We have tried adjusting the tension depending on the material being sewn and even when the tension appears balanced between the needle and bobbin threads it doesn't eliminate the knotting altogether. Some days it seems like the machine will behave and sew perfectly and other times there will be 6-8 knots within a 10 inch line of stitching. Sometimes I will rethread the machine and wind another bobbin and it might go away for a while and other times that doesn't help at all. Also have tried with no real improvement: Needles from size 18-22, silicone thread lubricant, changing bobbin tension, different tension when winding bobbins, different heights for the thread cone. I have a suspicion that after switching from A&E brand thread to Cansew this was when the over twisting and knotting really became an issue - the quality between orders of thread varies and some colours of the cansew thread seem to be very stiff and tangle easily where others almost feel like a lighter weight even though they are both tex 70? Some colours in particular are bad for this, especially the darker ones. The knotting happens more frequently on some machines than others (they are the same model of Juki) which makes me think it isn't only a thread quality issue but something that is happening with the machine it's self. Here are a few pictures of the knotted thread before and after the knot is untwisted. Has anyone else run into this problem before? Hoping someone could shed a little light on the situation, at this point I don't know what else I can be doing to try to improve the stitching.

Hey folks, I'm having a problem, hoping someone can help. In forward stitching the tension is perfectly balanced, but when I reverse it the upper thread is very tight. Any ideas why this happens, and what I can do about it? The forward/reverse stitch length balance is perfect, so I've eliminated that as a reason. This is on a Singer 591, but if you know about this issue on any machine I'll be interested, since it's a problem I encounter a lot in the machines I work on (this case is just particularly bad). A video of the issue is here: https://youtube.com/shorts/jY-ETcKG2AM?feature=share I used a lightweight cotton so that the issue would be obvious, but it bunches with lightweight leather too. Machine: Singer 591 D300AD Thanks, Alaina

I have a new job working with a juki 1541 leather machine. I work with size 69 1/2lb nylon thread and size 22 needles to see through quite thick leather. The thread consistently gets caught in the tension disk and snaps while sewing. Online wisdom is this is caused by threading the machine with the foot down, but when I thread it with the foot up it actually makes the issue worse- the thread feels stuck as soon as I put the foot back down. If I loosen the top thread tension spring I get loops on the bottom of my seams so it's not too tight. Any insights?

Hey guys! Im a noob here, first post. I recently acquired a Cobra 4 from the leather machine co. picked up from Dave about a month ago. Now my problem is that when I sew my knots pop up on top for about 4-5 stitches then they disappear for another 4-5 then they reappear. Please understand I am just learning how to drive this thing. Never used one before. is it me pushing or pulling the leather? or is this a tension problem? thank you guys! Frank
