My notebook was 2nd behind your blue ribbon... Your portfolio was great - I pulled up the pic last night and showed my wife what I placed behind - and felt good about it! I pretty much figured when I was filling out my entry form that I could have just wrote the check out to Peter, even though I had no idea what he was entering. Any idea who took second and third? ClayB Report post Posted October 23, 2007 Kevin, Isn't that cool? Not sure who did that or how, but this is how I would proceed. The tree would be carved as a normal carving, then stretched from the back side to give it the shape. Then you take either a scalpel, or a pro petal tool and slice into the part where the opening is. I would pack the back side where you created a cavity when stretching with leather dust/rubber cement mixture. Once that was dry, re tool the front and add details. I am not sure if they carved the bunny on the same piece of leather (if they did, that took some talent) or if it was carved on a seperate piece and slid into the opening. One of the great things about going to the shows (or attending thorugh a great set of pictures) is seeing all the things other people come up with. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

With all those pictures you took, Jo, I should have found you somewhere, you were everywhere that I was! You did take some nice pictures of our guild display table, Columbine Leather Guild. You just didn't get one with the Taveling Trophey that we won. I'm sure we won it because of my yak hide. :biggrin: Peter Main won the world competition with that beautiful angel. Roz Kahon took third with her cute wizzard scene, but I don't know who took second. I don't even know who took Best of Show in the guild competition. I wish they would let us see the winners during the day so we know what won. Freak, I hope you enjoy all those leather pictures you heisted when you were pretending to help me load the car. Seriously, we left before you, right after the deligates meeting. Decided to spend the night in Amarillo and get up early the next morning, but over slept. Johanna Report post Posted October 28, 2007 I think our Vera took second place in the world competition. Congrats to Columbine for winning the traveling trophy! There was stiff competition, and I'm glad I didn't have to vote. Indiana sure has a nice display, so does Lonestar and a few others. Roz Short Kaohn (the dragon lady) had a vendor table set up, quite a bit of work on the Ozark guild table, as well as pieces in competition. There was quite a bit of detail, and it was way too pretty to use for any actual work! Who made it? I never did find out. These are the only pics I have. Regis Report post Posted November 2, 2007 I noticed some catagories have a 2nd & 3rd or 1st & 3rd but, "None" in the other places. Is there some kind of benchmark to meet in addition to competition with peers? Examples are B5 and D3. What am I missing/not understanding? Looks like someone could win 2nd but there is no 1st place. ClayB Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Regis, If the judges dont feel there is any entry worthy of a ribbon, they don't have to award one. I think the reason given was that if awards had to be given in every catagory, work that wasn't high quality would be awarded by default. Advancement from open to advanced and advanced to masters is based on awards one in the previous catagory.If awards were given just because you were the only entry in that catagory, you could advance even if your work wasn't up to the standard of the others in the catagory.
