Laser engraving / cutting of leather

Recommended Posts

I am  looking at the XTool P2S for sure, and or maybe the S1Ultra.  Does anyone here have experience with either of these two machines?

I'll get a video for you. I have belts to cut out.

At the moment I'm cross hatch patterning some leather for a wallet... because why not?

I used to have a set of embossing wheels i had made up in that pattern for belts and slings.  I lifted the idea from a K98 sling.   Like someone else likes that pattern on leather.

That's a pretty unique use for a laser.  Only real downside I could see to a laser vs a die is that you don't get that nice bullnose (ish) edge finish on cut parts. Not that it means much I guess.  Laser would be great for garment leather.

My P2 is a workhorse and my main machine for cutting leather. I use it to cut everything up to 10-oz veg tan. Also works great on cutting and engraving wood and acrylics.

Haven't used the S1, but have used similar diode machines, including xTool's D1. It should cut everything the P2 can (except clear acrylic sheet).

Is there a specific need you're wanting to make sure you can do on either?

For me the cutting of leather is a must...thick to thin....and it covers wood some of my other side projects.....my partner cutting kydex and engraving on metal.... So would you state that it is well worth the price for the quality and production you get from the machine P2?
