justgetmeoutside Report post Posted May 17, 2022 I am going to be using my Highlead GC0618-1-SC to sew leather. What type of presser foot should I use? Should I lower the feed dogs?
MtlBiker Report post Posted May 17, 2022 Welcome to the forum! Are you new to sewing or to the machine? Have you tried sewing leather with it? I'm not familiar with that machine but since it seems to be a compound feed machine, it should do well with leather. You many not need to change the presser foot, unless maybe you find it leaves marks on the leather. And of course it also depends on what kind of leather (veg tan or chrome tan) and the thickness and how many layers. You should use leather needles though instead of the general purpose needles that seem to come with the machine. Good luck!
chrisash Report post Posted May 17, 2022 As its is a walking foot machine a lot will depend on the leather you are sewing and how thick it is, You do not want very scalloped feet and a lot of pressure as they may mark the leather, you best bet to to experiment and if the leather is marked ease off the pressure, as with all sewing machines there is no real easy way to sort out the tensions and pressure apart from experiment Here is a link to Bonded Nylon thread and needle size you may find handy https://www.tolindsewmach.com/thread-chart.html
