Robert Beard Swivel knife

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of buying a Robert Beard Swivel knife.

Funds are tight , so I was thinking of just buying the blade & using it in my Tandy shaft. My question is, will it fit ?

All help & sugestions welcome,

Thanks, Craftsman827 aka Peter I.

That's a good question to ask. I don't know, but I just bought a Barry King Beader blade and it didn't fit my knife, so I had to...dare I say it....grind it down and sand it smooth enough to fit my knife. Good thing it only cost me 20 bucks. I hope I didn't screw up the temper on it.

I've got two of Bob Beard's blades in Tandy swivel knives and they work fine. Not as fun as Bob's swivel knives, but maybe someday I'll have one of those too.

I also have two of Bob's blades, and they fit fine in my Pro-Line handle that I got at Tandy's years ago. So does Chuck Smith's blade, and the Henley blade I got from Peter Main at the IFoLG show. You won't have a problem with your Tandy knife!

A swivel knife is of no help when you are being charged by a mad yak.

I have to say this...I don't carve leather, but I have held lots of different swivel knives. No knife has ever felt as good in my hand as one of Bob Beard's. His knives are perfectly balanced, and fit in my hand like no other. When I first held one, I decided if I ever were going to get serious about carving, I would toss all my other knives and buy one of his. That said, a lot of the blades are interchangeable, but don't overlook the importance of the whole tool. A swivel knife is more than just a blade. If the barrel won't swivel correctly, you may as well use an Exacto knife.
