angelhc Report post Posted July 19, 2022 Hi all, First of all thanks for this helpful site, a lot of information which helps me in my hobby of leathercraft. I want to show you my first bags, they are not perfect but I'm improving day after day, now I'm making two new ones which will be showed after finish. The only thing that I'm not comfortable with is the edge painting, always a lot of work with very poor results but I'm trying to improve The second part:
toxo Report post Posted July 19, 2022 Welcome Angel. Looks like you're doing OK. It's good you're trying different styles, just need a bit more practice. A couple of points - A really hairy strap never looks good a rub down with almost anything will improve it. When you're punching holes, always try to look down the line. That's important! If you punch crossways you can't see if a hole steps out of line and it only takes one stitch out of line to stick out like a sore thumb. Good work. angelhc Report post Posted July 19, 2022 Thank you very much for your words, if it is true that a single bad stitch makes the general work look degraded. I am now trying to ensure that all my work has perfect stitches, in some cases I have had to undo 20cm of sewing for this. Regarding the hairy straps yes, it is not what I want jajaja, now I'm thinking to use tokonole to avoid it on my future projects. Thanks again for answer! PastorBob Report post Posted July 19, 2022 Very impressive. As you continue, you will see that each bag gets better and better. When you post pics, it gives others a chance to give input such as @toxo where, as the craftsman might not see it. On edge paint, I rarely use it. It can be a painful process. I just normally slick them down and they come out a shade darker than the original color, still giving some contrast.
angelhc Report post Posted July 20, 2022 Thanks PastorBob! yes, after 1 year in this hobby what I see is that every finished bag is better than the previous one, better tools, better threads, same hands :D For me is a pleasure to share my handbags, because I dont know anyone near me (I'm from Spain) with the same inquietudes and this forum helps me a lot in the past, for example MR. Armitage and his youtube channel
