Identyfication - sewing machine.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone - thank you for accepting me to the esteemed group of this forum. My name is Jacek, I come from distant Poland and I am fascinated by the mechanics and technology of yesteryear. I am not a tailor, but my fascination also reached sewing machines from the 9th century. I have a few of them (including a brand new 216G), but my last purchase for a bargain price ($90) is probably not a hit... Lack of hardware on the body, shaft of the bevel gear after breaking the wedge repaired with a home-made method that destroyed the original key, drive wheel, painted decorations... A table welded in two places... Oh... There was a moment to make a decision... I have doubts whether its reconstruction makes sense... But what hardware are we talking about? I don't know, although it seems to be some model from the company "Claes" 200-3 - very similar - but it's probably not her... Please help in identification. Merry Christmas! Greetings to all from cold, until recently snowy Poland. Jack

You have to edit your text, it is almost impossible to read.

the machine appears to be some sort of early CLAES RPX (very similar to Mod. 200) but seems the machine has "not been loved" very much. Bobbin winder and tension unit are missing and the spring on the needle bar is not original - as far as I can tell from the pictures.

If it sews then good - if not you may need a 2nd machine for parts. I love restoring vintage machines as long as they are in a "certain" shape but IMO yours is not worth putting money in this machine. You will have a hard time finding the missing parts, it most likely easier to find a 2nd machine in better shape.

Thanks for the replies - it really doesn't make sense to invest in it. Too bad someone treated her like that. Greetings to all  - I will look for another one in its original condition, without interfering with its mechanics and appearance. Thanks again for your response.

However - you may be able to sell the treadle base locally cause they are sometimes missing. They work for Adler 30 and Singer 29K machines too. It may require drilling some mounting holes but they will work. Some even buy these stands for garden decoration for putting flower pots on them or what ever. Taking the machine apart and selling the parts may be an option too.

You may brake even or probably maybe make a small profit. If you are able to ship the parts overseas I may know someone who (probably) could be interested in the parts. But I´m sure he is reading here too.;)

C,

I think the machine could be salvaged.   The bobbin winder is not critical. The tension assembly could be gotten.  Same as on a Patent elastic by Claes.  It is on an Adler Stand.  Other bobbin winder could be used.
Patent elastic bobbin winder ,( and I mean the manual one) , could be used.  If I had it here in the USA, I could rebuild it.   The hook, bobbin and throat plate can still be gotten as you know C.  If price is low enough, I would get it if I were him.   Early Claes parts are on Ebay.de.  I have seen them and Eric has ordered some of them C.

I am concerned about the condition of the items in the photos. Once you had to find a keyway of the bevel gear shaft to check and someone performed a wedge test destroying the original solution. In the case of a very probable lack of a used part, it may be necessary to weld it and make such a connection from a new one, similar to the surviving groove from a rope-driven wheel. The problem is probably not so trivial... What's the idea? Thanks for the cause of the problem and all the hints. Happy New Year. Jack
