JohnJD Report post Posted March 31, 2023 I just purchased this machine today. I hope I picked wisely and got a good deal. I picked up this Singer 211U566, table and servor motor for $1000. Did I get a good deal and will this machine be sufficient for auto upholstery and the occasional leather work? Please be honest with me. It appears there is is very little wear to the head or table. Maybe lightly used? What do you think. Also, I was able to locate a parts list and service manual, but not a user manual. Does anyone on here have access to the user manual or no where I can find/buy one? I did locate a YouTube video of a guy threading the machine and loading a bobbin so at least that will help me get started. Thanks JD
JohnJD Report post Posted March 31, 2023 (edited) OK, I did find this link on the forum. Did not realize until this AM that the service manual had limited operational directions as well. I should be able to use these 2 resources, but would still like some feedback about the machine I purchased. Thanks! Oh, and here is the YouTube video I found if anyone else sees this post and has a Singer 211. Pretty in depth. Edited March 31, 2023 by JohnJD
MtlBiker Report post Posted March 31, 2023 @JohnJD - Since you don't list your location in your profile, guessing that you're in the US and talking US dollars, I think US$1000 was too much for that used machine. I'm in Canada and a couple of years ago I bought a brand new Consew 206RB-5 with servo motor for $1,300. That's about US$950 at current exchange rates. Brand new. Compound walking foot machine. Probably others here more knowledgeable about those Singer machines will comment, but I think you overpaid by several hundred dollars.

In Ontario, Canada you often see the Singer 211's go for about $500 CAD ($370 USD) and sometimes just the head for about $300 CAD ($200 USD). kgg
JohnJD Report post Posted March 31, 2023 Yes, I'm in the US. Well, not what I wanted to hear, but appreciate the honesty. I knew for about 50-70% more I could have purchased a newer brand machine, but really like the older machines and the quality they possess (most are from Germany/Japan, not China). I thought it was a fair price because all the machines of similar features were $1000 or greater in my area. And most of those were really worn and appeared to be used extensively. I guess in the end, as long as it is a reliable machine and does what I want, then I'm happy, regardless of what I paid. :-) Thanks for the replies. If there are others with an opinion I would like to hear them as we.

I live in a very rural area and even though shoe manufacturing once thrived here, used industrial machines are few and far between. When they do appear, they seem to command much more than I'd want to pay. How long would you have to look in your area for a better deal? Forget the money and enjoy the new machine.
