LOL, my wife's puppy drinks my coffee when I go looking for a doughnut so I guess having the frosting licked off is par for the course.

Announcing Leatherworker.net's first ever carving contest (sort of)

It's not going to be a competition where entries are judged against each other, but there will be prize drawings for the entrants. The reason it's going to be done this way is to encourage as many people as we can to participate, no matter your skill level. You don't have to feel intimidated in any way. By seeing how much participation we get in this contest, we can get a feel for how we should conduct future contests.

But, will there be judging even if not against each other? For example n points for design & complexity, nn points for carving, and nnn points for tooling. That would give everyone an idea of areas needing most work or practice.

Just a thought (unless you get 200 entries of course)[lol]

God, Family, and Country (although liberals are attempting to destroy these in the USA)

Regis,

At this point there are no plans to judge the entries at all. You could request a critique on your entry if you like. Hopefully if we get a bunch of requests, we could get a few people to work on critiques.

Just wanted to remind everyone that is thinking about submitting an oak leaf (or two or three), you only have until the end of the week to get pictures sent in. I am really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. I hope we are buried in last minute submissions.

I don't now you maybe flooded with entries but after reading your last comment "buried in last minute submissions". I get the feeling NOT. You might want to rethink the deadline here. I keep thinking i'll find the time to do atleast one. But, , , with trying to get a few things made for x-mas and then all the shopping,,,well . . I would bet i'm not the only one who is tight on time this time of year. Or maybe have this one and then do another after the new year. I think all in all it's a great idea. I just think the timing might be off.

It takes more then one freak to have a true freakshow. So take a seat , the show is about to start.

I am considering extending the deadline, but haven't made a decision yet. I am not sure I think that would be fair to the people that "made" the time to get thier entries done by the deadline. I know it was bad timing with it being this close to Christmas, but I felt it had been put off long enough. Hopefully the next one will go more smoothly.

I hope you extend the deadline.

I've been SO busy with Christmas gifts, & orders.

Also beleive or not I just found out about the contest.

I think its a great idea. I'm on the site every day, but only found out by seeing the oak leaves Jim sent you.

Anyway, if not I'll enter the next one. Hope there is a next one.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL...

Well... I submitted two entries, but shoot this is for fun, not for the prizes. I have no problem with keeping it open if it gets more folks in - honestly, my only reason for wanting it closed would be to see what everybody did!

I enjoyed it and want to encourage participation, so Clay, whatever you think makes it a sucessful contest, I support.

That's kind of something I've thought too. I think it would be a good idea to have something like a temporary note at the top of the forum homepage for stuff like this because I think it would get noticed by more people. That way everyone knows right away if a contest has begun.

And you know, I was just going to ask what the exact deadline is because I think I can get an entry in before the end of tomarrow (the 21st). . . Yeah, I really should have done it sooner, but. . . See, that's the thing about this forum! There are so many topics and interesting things here that I don't always get through looking at everything I'd like to! So I'm pretty sure I didn't find out about the contest right away either. Now why did Johanna have to start such a great place?! :scratchhead: ;)
