Cigar Cases

Recommended Posts

Wanted to share the progress from first prototype, to the first one I'm fairly happy with.

The first one was more than a bit rough, and was made using my first attempt at making a mold. The rest were made with one I modeled and 3d printed and turned out a lot better in my opinion.

Still not sure what the best way to finish the edges would be, especially the opening sections.

Any feedback is also appreciated, thank you.

Nice job. Them look great. Nice work on the wet molding.

Those look good. Molded leather is a classy and these are all about that. To answer your question about burnishing, I'd use a piece of canvas and burnish the edges with gum tragacanth. I'd suggest a piece of old cotton fire hose but that stuff is scarce these days. It's great if you can find a piece, though.

What does your mold look like?

Thank you, and I'll have to keep my eye out for old fire hoses. I'll definitely give the canvas a try in the meantime.

As for my molds, I'll add a pic of them. For the larger section I end up using a slightly larger diameter and a little wider pocket as well.

Edit: After I put the molds into the leather I use a vacuum bag to help mold them and let them dry a little.

Another thing that works for burnishing edges is a piece of denim blue Jean's material. Works good.

Those are good molds. Thanks.

Hopefully you can find some fire hose. The stuff is made flattened so it can be rolled up. The edges work well on tight inside curves.
