Frankqv Report post Posted September 22 (edited) These are kits we will be producing. We have been making dies for our own products for about 5 years. We have about 75 sets of dies for wallets, bags holster, sheaths and other misc products. We are trying to make a product that could be purchased wholesale, completed and sold. These kits will be offered with Wicket and Craig leather. All the holes are punched 1mm, all snaps and fittings are installed. thread is 1mm Rittza. We are working on instruction videos. When making the Kit we rough cut leather to size, split to the correct weight for the application. diecut and install fittings. Provided a link to our preliminary pricing. AlZilla Report post Posted September 22 Good luck with it. The pricing is such that I could see it working for someone who wanted to spend their time tooling and finishing, especially with the free shipping over $50. I'm in the middle of punching 5 or 600 silly little holes on a project so the value of pre-punched is not lost on me...
Frankqv Report post Posted September 22 Thanks for the shoutout. It’s been received pretty well locally. A lot of people don’t have a shop, or a place where they can stock multiple weights/colors of leather. Maybe they only have a small area to work in, or maybe they don’t want to cut and punch, but would rather embellish the product to give it more value. We are trying to price it so there is upside for the purchaser. With these kits you only have to be able to saddle stitch and edge finish. A fella or girl could make up 10-15 pieces over a week and sell them on a weekend for a 150% upside. We use Wicket and Craig for all of our tack so that choice was easy. We only stock 10-12 oz so everything it’s split accordingly. We have invested in some Montana Leather, Vaquetta veg tan that comes in striking colors. Some kits will be offered so you can mix and match colors for pieces. It’s a sideline to our tack and engraving business. I know many who have been in the biz don’t give it much of a chance. That’s easy to say when you have a 2000 ft2 shop, with all the equipment for sewing, splitting, cutting ect like ours. We take for granted to split a piece, or cut some obscure design with a laser, or to go over to the leather rack and choose from maybe 300 pieces of leather. We use to sell some of our more popular dies with hole punches installed. Anybody who has researched diemaking knows how the cost goes up dramatically when hole punches are involved. As the 1mm punches aren’t readily available we had to by 100,00 pieces at a time. The process evolved, but it wasn’t worth selling the dies as the time involved for setting the punches, and the cost of the punches was quite high. Then there were the really intelligent people that say I can get that die from China real cheap. Yes 1 pt rule dies of basic shapes are cheap from China, and probable suffice for many. But not all dies are created equal, and Weavers new line of rule dies are basically the same dies we make, and they are not cheap. One more thing, we are here to help people who want to use the products, whether they are newbies or veteran leather workers, we are here to pass on knowledge and capabilities that we have amassed over the years. And we are all ears if people have positive recommendations to make the products better. Thanks for looking.
