Members WriterSteven Posted October 4, 2024 Members Report Posted October 4, 2024 I have a project that needs a nice buttery warm caramel color. I’m working with Pro Dye and I have tried to come up with it using my light brown at 50% but it’s more of an orange tint rather than caramel. (Why my light brown continues to look more orange is another subject I suppose.) Any color mixing suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Quote

If you are looking for a caramel color, you might look into the colors Saddle Tan or British tan. Quote

Members WriterSteven Posted October 4, 2024 Author Members Report Posted October 4, 2024 After taking a look, would those two colors have more of an orange tint to them? It hard to tell by looking at their small swatch color samples! Quote
Members DoogMeister Posted October 4, 2024 Members Report Posted October 4, 2024 Both colors can be orangey. Diluting 50-50with 91% Isopropyl alcohol can help. Also using antiquing compound (Feibing's paste) can tone down the color. Key is to practice on scrap. I find Feibing's Pro Golden Brown to have a pleasant warm color. Quote
Members DieselTech Posted October 4, 2024 Members Report Posted October 4, 2024 I'm not sure, I have not tried my saddle tan dye yet. I do dilute my dye at a 1:1 ratio, & have had good results at this thinning rate. The other color to look into is Spanish brown. Quote
Members pengkegu Posted October 8, 2024 Members Report Posted October 8, 2024 I think you could try adding some yellow, preferably lemon yellow Quote
