WriterSteven Report post Posted 7 hours ago I have a project that needs a nice buttery warm caramel color. I’m working with Pro Dye and I have tried to come up with it using my light brown at 50% but it’s more of an orange tint rather than caramel. (Why my light brown continues to look more orange is another subject I suppose.) Any color mixing suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated. If you are looking for a caramel color, you might look into the colors Saddle Tan or British tan.
WriterSteven Report post Posted 6 hours ago I haven’t tried either one of those yet. I’ll order a small bottle of each to see how it goes.
WriterSteven Report post Posted 6 hours ago After taking a look, would those two colors have more of an orange tint to them? It hard to tell by looking at their small swatch color samples!
DoogMeister Report post Posted 5 hours ago Both colors can be orangey. Diluting 50-50with 91% Isopropyl alcohol can help. Also using antiquing compound (Feibing's paste) can tone down the color. Key is to practice on scrap. I find Feibing's Pro Golden Brown to have a pleasant warm color.
DieselTech Report post Posted 4 hours ago I'm not sure, I have not tried my saddle tan dye yet. I do dilute my dye at a 1:1 ratio, & have had good results at this thinning rate. The other color to look into is Spanish brown.
