what side of the leather is the grain side?

i know this may be a stupid question but what side of the leather is the grain side and what side is the flesh side

There are no stupid questions. The rough side is the flesh side, the smooooooth side is the grain side.

The flesh side is the inside of the skin, and the grain side is the outside, where the hair would have been. No such thing as stupid questions.

The way it is worded, I still get it confused today... you would think the "grain" side would be the grainy rough side and the "flesh" side would be the smooth as skin side....

But nothing is that easy.....

thanks guys. the book i was reading was saying flesh side out/ grain side out and i was so confused thank you for clearing it up
