Embosser and splitter

Recommended Posts

I have a chance to buy a small embosser and splitter, along with other leather tools/machines/leather. I'm trying to price everything to either sell or keep a few things.

Any help would be appreciated

This may give you some idea as to what they would cost new and from there you could decide what they would be worth to you.

The embosser is from Ivan Leathercraft out of Taiwan and can be bought new on sale for $405 USD (https://www.ivan.tw/products/final-sale-professional-leather-strap-embossing-machine-1 ).

A similar splitter to the one in the photo can also be bought Ivan Leathercraft for $350 USD ( https://www.ivan.tw/collections/machines/products/deluxe-leather-splitter )

What are they asking for the embosser and splitter???

The splitter looks to be an original JD Randall. The hex handle and slot with set screw for the hold down was their pattern.  If there is a tag anywhere or marking on the blade -  Cleaned up - $700. If no marking then less

Thatnks for the info so far. Unfortunately I couldnt find any marking on the splitter or embosser.

The woman is selling her late husband's tools at auction but doesnt kbow what it's all worth. The auction house called me to take first crack at it before it goes to auction.

There are 4 sewing machines, one being a techsew pro 2750. She's firm at $2700 for it. A Tippman Boss, a Ferdinand, and an old Union Special lockstitch machine.

There are a lot of pieces of leather, mostly scrap. Hardware for belts. A few stamps, some of which I have doubles already.

I would like to give her a lump some but it doesnt look like I could make a good turn around on it.

I might be interested in the Ferdinand, just depends on the cost/model/location.

I'm not sure on the model or price. Make an offer and I'll see if they agree to it.

If they dont like the price it'll go to auction. Location is the Crossville, TN area.

Sounds like the lady is emotionally attached, which is understandable, but I think she is being unrealistic as you can get a new one for $2900 USD plus shipping. At auction I think she would be lucky to get 50 to 70 percent of a new one, $1500 to $2100 (pristine condition). As a note I am selling my 2750 Pro in pristine condition and less then 3 years old for $2800 CAD ( $1940 USD) which is about 63 percent the cost of a new one.

I agree.

Her husband bought the machine Jan of last year and passed away 6months ago. He didn't do a lot of leather work, mostly craft fairs, so the machine is barely broken in. In her eyes it's still brand new so I dont think she'll budge on it and will take her chances at auction.

Thanks for the reply.  That's probably a good useful machine, but I already have some of that class.     I like the large handweel, looks handy.  Probably worth $500-600 if it is in working condition.  Is that hammer grey Seiko Paint or is it just really dirty Consew/Seiko white?

The Union Special, probably no real value.  Someone might buy it for the table or motor though.

What is "Auction"?  Are we talking about Ebay or some local auction house?

It's a dirty gray, i think.

I think the Union Special is a trendle machine. The closest I could match it with is 1930's

It'll be a local auction selling off his workshop. Apparantly he dabbled in a lot of things so he has a bit of stuff, not just leather related.

I have to get back to him tomorrow because it all goes on the 8th.

I would be interested in knowing what the Techsew 2750 Pro goes for at auction.

KGG I bet it will go pretty cheap unless they take online bids as well through something like Proxbid or allowing call in proxy bids.   If it brings over $800 at an in person only local auction, I'd be somewhat surprised. Three sewing machines in the auction billing just isn't enough to bring in the right kind of bidders from afar.  Hope they get what they need though.

Yes I have seen it go both ways where excellant machines go for next to nothing and junkers go for almost the price of a good used machine.
