RKCrowe Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Good day! I got some hair on hide remnants, from my brother-in-law. He had a couch recovered with it, and I wanted to make a pillow case, as a thank you. The case would be HOH on one side and upholstery leather on the other side. My question: for a 16x16 pillow, what size should my panels be? Should it be approximately 1/2 the pillow thickness? Thank you Richard Quote
Members Beehive Posted February 10 Members Report Posted February 10 I don't know but it sure makes me think. I'd assume 18x18 inches would produce a 16x16 that's 2inches thick in the middle. Going with 19x19 to make sure. ~3" thick. You can always buy the thin foam craft sheets. Cut the panel sizes and glue them together. Do a mock up. The foam craft sheets are about as thick as 4-5oz. I've used it to mock up holsters. Worked for me. Quote
CFM chuck123wapati Posted February 12 CFM Report Posted February 12 find a cheap pillow with the right shape deconstruct it and use the pieces as patterns Quote
Members Klara Posted February 12 Members Report Posted February 12 As a general rule, pillow cases should be a bit smaller than the pillow that goes inside for the pillow to be nice and plump. In other words, if the "filling" (I suppose you are using a commercial pillow from Ikea or elsewhere) is 16 x 16 inches, then you can make the outside 16 x 16 as well. Easy peasy... You don't need a pattern, a "normal" pillow consists of two squares sewn together on three sides with a zipper on the fourth. Or am I completely misunderstanding what you are trying to make? Quote
Members Moleather778 Posted February 20 Members Report Posted February 20 I would also make the case a little bigger as the foam inside can be added to or you are able to use a sofa cushion refill service. I have recently had ,y sofas done which obviously isn't the same they did however say they add a half inch to all sizes if they fill them to make sure everything is nicely in the case. I got mine done from here if it helps however we all know the leather may expand so its more important to make sure you have extra foam in there for the long term. As someone else said you could just buy the foam sheets to add to make it filled in in the future. However as i did a cushion for someone i just used this sofa cushion replacement service which took away the hassle. here's the website i used: eFoam Quote
