Members sewing4life Posted April 26 Members Report Posted April 26 I can’t get the feed dogs to move front to back on my Singer 107w1. If someone can send me a video it might help. It seems as though one arm is rotating but not the other. Any help is appreciated. I have attached a video of my machine. Trying to see what it is supposed to be doing. Thanks IMG_7860.mov Quote

This is where the machine guys hang out. A longer video would be helpful. You can post it on YouTube and link to it here. Above and below the feed dogs. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted April 27 Members Report Posted April 27 (edited) First of all what stitch length have you dialed? If Zero then you have no movement on the right rod and no feed dog movement. Is the stitch length "assembly" complete and is the spindle insert correctly? Please post some more pictures of your machine. Second - I have a 107w1 as well and too me it looks like the rod on the right, which is the rod for feed dog movement could be installed incorrectly. The screw should be to the rear (this is how it is on my machine) and not on the front side as we can see in the short video. Not sure what is going on on the underside of your machine but could be that something else is installed incorrectly (but this is guessing). I´ll post pictures of my 107w1 later. Members sewing4life Posted April 29 Author Members Report Posted April 29 It does appear to be completely opposite of yours. The machine was sewing for several years and then it was transported to another location and now I can’t get it to sew. I’m trying to see one in motion same angle as mine to try and see what’s different. I followed the instructions in the service manual and loosened the screws, removed the rod, and put it all back trying to push rod all the way in, still no movement. Not sure of tightness of screw to lengthen the stitch. Quote
Members Tigweldor Posted April 29 Members Report Posted April 29 By the looks of the belt on your machine - it seems to have been replaced at one time or another if you compare it to con´s "string-type" belt. And if you look at how your sewing machine table top has delaminated - it seems that the unit has seen a lot of moisture at some time in its´life. Are you sure that all moving parts can actually move and have not seized to a stop ? Quote
Members sewing4life Posted April 29 Author Members Report Posted April 29 Yes, If I loosened the screws that attach the rod to the bottom bar and I can twist the horizontal bar that connects the rod to the feed dogs and it moves as it should. The rod on the right is not rotating like the one on the left. That’s why I’m thinking it’s some connection, or possibly a bushing on the main shaft. If I tighten the screw at the top of the rod to the shaft, it binds up and the shaft doesn’t move. I never could get the stitch length numbers on the dial to line up right, it seemed like that rod needed to go in more. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted May 1 Members Report Posted May 1 Well, de do not know the details of your machine cause we are not in front of it. So picture may help us to figure things. Have you pulled out the stitch length spindle? There is a pin on the inside oft the dial knob that pin goes into the coarse threading ion the top shaft. You have to push the spindle a bit when "screwing in" the spindle. Do you have a manual for the machine If not here is one. See pages 18, 19 for an x-ray view of the stitch length assembly. Hope this helps a bit. 107W1,W3,W5-inst.pdf Quote ~ Keep "OLD CAST IRON" alive - it´s worth it ~ Machines in use: - Singer 111G156 - Singer 307G2 - Singer 29K71 - Singer 212G141 - Singer 45D91 - Singer 132K6 - Singer 108W20 - Singer 51WSV2 - Singer 143W2
