AlZilla Posted May 14 Report Posted May 14 Below is a sreenshot from jeffreycustomleather.com of a holster they offer that rides between the belt and the pants. I'm wondering if anyone has made or used something along these lines. I'm going to see what I can engineer. For us fat guys, an OWB holster tends to tip out at the top. At least for this fat guy. I could see something like this being advantageous. Probably need to keep the mouth above the belt so the mouth doesn't crush when the gun is drawn. Galco offers one: https://www.galcogunleather.com/jak-slide-2-0-belt-holster_8_1176_1493.html A search for the phrase "Holster between the belt and pants" turns up some discussion around the net. wizard of tragacanth Posted July 18 Report Posted July 18 A BTB (or BTP) holster is my next project. I have never used one, nor made one before. It is an experiment. I am making it for a friend who said that his "muffin-top" causes too much tilting outward with his Avenger style holster. I have always wanted to try this style, so this is the perfect opportunity. I saw that jefferycustomleather style quite some time ago and appreciated its' simplicity and elegance. Love the look. However, I worry that a muffin-top may play the devil with a snap closure, so I will be going with a sewn-on loop, such as that offered by Mitch Rosen. https://mitchrosen.com/products/straightman?_pos=3&_sid=afaeaeaf8&_ss=r This will be a straight-drop style for a Sig P365. I haven't sat down with this project yet. wizard of tragacanth Posted Wednesday at 10:44 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:44 PM (edited) AIZilla... Did you ever work up your BTB? This is what I came up with. Works great for me. Very comfortable and concealable. Edited Wednesday at 10:46 PM by wizard of tragacanth typo Quote
AlZilla Posted Wednesday at 10:51 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 10:51 PM Oh, yeah, I remember this from the stitching question. Very nice. I thought that belt loop was odd but didn't make the connection. No, I've been spending my time tearing servo motors apart. We're also on the tail end of a heat wave and no a/c in my craft room. I definitely need to pick a gun and get on this. Maybe my PK380 would be a good candidate. BUT . . . unless you have a serious muscle or fat layer between the britches and the pelvic bones . . . that style holster will dig like a groundhog and . . . at least in my experience . . . will bring on some serious pain. Making it in two pieces . . . instead of a wrap around . . . kinda sorta like a pancake . . . leaving the ears to stick out maybe 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches on each side . . . and making it the style pancake where the inside piece is totally flat . . . all the gun is inside the outside piece . . . well formed . . . with a 1 1/2 inch top strip along that top edge for rigidity . . . it will be MUCH more comfortable. Anything from a Bersa Thunder up to a Taurus G3 compact . . . will dig in and hurt. The "semi pancake" gets rid of that leading edge which causes the pain . . . and will not allow the butt of the gun to roll out like a short baseball bat. But . . . your experience may very well be different from mine. May God bless, Dwight Quote If you can breathe, . . . thank God. If you can read, . . . thank a teacher. I've carried at 12:00 quite nicely with things like a Glock 33 and down. But now that I've gone to suspenders I have to tuck my shirt in. Definitely don't like "tuckable" iwb. So, I'm looking around. I'm trying to imagine suspenders that attach at the side and incorporate a holster. I took some of my shirts with tails on em . . . laid em down and cut the tails off square . . . put a hem in em . . . and wear em Hawaiian style . . . suspenders inside over my tee shirt. Works pretty good for me May God bless, Dwight Quote If you can breathe, . . . thank God. If you can read, . . . thank a teacher.
