Is the techsew 860 a reliable leather sewing machine, has anybody used it?  I will mostly be using it to work on horse riding boots.

I use a patcher for replacing zippers on riding boots.  Before I got a patcher I would sew most of the zipper with a cylinder arm machine, and finish the bottom end by hand sewing with a jerk needle.  The patcher does a neater job.  Here's a thread that might be useful.

Hey Tom, appreciate your input. Actually, I have two Claes machines, which do the job perfectly. Specially on zippers. Besides zippers though I also do quite a bit of alterations to the calf area of the boots. I purchased an Adler 669 which sews perfectly however I think with a post bed walking foot I have more maneuverability. She sold the 669. And I’m now looking at the Techsew 850, and I was wondering if the Techsew is a reliable machine?

Hi again, it is the Techsew 860 not 850, anyway it’s the walking foot model ( post bed).

Got it. No experience with Techsew sewing machines, but I’ve been happy with their bell skiver and service. I’d enjoy learning how you make alterations to riding boots, if you’re inclined to show your methods. Most of my experience is tack/strap goods.

I have never used one but a point to keep in mind and do your own investigation with your appropriate agency probably the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP),would there be a potential tariff on importing the machine into the US from Canada.

If the tariff applies, you will be the importer and could be responsible for a 25 % tariff ( tax / duty, call it what you like) so the machines price would increase from $3349 to $4186.25. That would work out to be an additional $837.25.

Just something to check so there are no surprises.

The machine is all ready in the states, so there are no tariffs all I have to do is order it.

I still like to know the reliability of Techsew machines. If anyone can offer some input, it will be appreciated.

I have a Techsew 2700 cylinder bed machine.  Reliable, no problems with it.  Doesn't get used heavily since I don't do a lot of work.
