Hey all,

I'm hoping to make a holster for my 1851 Navy replica in the next week or so. It has a long front sight, ~1/4". Are there any considerations I need to take in making a holster for this gun, so the sight doesn't get damaged, or caught when I'm drawing the gun?

I moved this over to the Gun Holsters forum. Probably get the proper attention over here.

I suspect the creative minds here week have a better solution but my gut instinct was could the sight channel be lined with something non-snagging like PTFE?

use a thin piece of wood or something to tape from the front sight when wet forming your holster to the back sight or your holster will develop a hump, and your front sight will drag on the holster. Post pics

Worked in a prison for 30 years if I aint shiny every time I comment its no big deal, I just don't wave pompoms.

I figured it might be something like that, thank you for your insight! That little extra space wouldn't cause the gun to be too loose after it dries, would it?

nope, most of the fit comes from the cylinder and the sides. once wet formed and dried it will fit like a glove. Post us some pics !! and have fun with it.
