Members aaroncrafts Posted October 16 Members Report Posted October 16 Hey all, I'm hoping to make a holster for my 1851 Navy replica in the next week or so. It has a long front sight, ~1/4". Are there any considerations I need to take in making a holster for this gun, so the sight doesn't get damaged, or caught when I'm drawing the gun? TYIA Aaron Quote
AlZilla Posted October 16 Report Posted October 16 I moved this over to the Gun Holsters forum. Probably get the proper attention over here. I suspect the creative minds here week have a better solution but my gut instinct was could the sight channel be lined with something non-snagging like PTFE? TYIA Aaron use a thin piece of wood or something to tape from the front sight when wet forming your holster to the back sight or your holster will develop a hump, and your front sight will drag on the holster. Post pics I figured it might be something like that, thank you for your insight! That little extra space wouldn't cause the gun to be too loose after it dries, would it? Post us some pics !! and have fun with it. Members 1961Mike Posted 11 hours ago Members Report Posted 11 hours ago Hi I've HEARD of this being done, but haven't needed to try it yet. You can glue and / or sew a strip of leather, roughly the height of the sight, for the sight to ride up and down the holster when drawing and re-holstering. One strip on each side of the barrel. again, HEARD of it. it would be worth a try though, use scrap leather for the first try. Later Quote
