Its been a while since Ive done any leather work at all, but I just recently built a couple of holsters for my brother. Now Dad wants a couple of pistol rugs made, and I have no idea what I'll need or how to put one together. Anyone know where to get a pattern and/or instructions for making them. Or any books that I should buy that would point me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly apprecited.

Thanks, Greg

Go to your nearest gun store/outdoor sporting goods store and get one of the cheap fabric gun rugs. You can usually get one for $5 - $8. That will give you not only the size but padding info and zipper size.

That's what I did - took an existing, inexpensive one and disassembled it. We then modified the size and shape a bit to better suit our needs and make the actual assembly of it easier. We do two different sizes - medium and large. We also do two basic types - tooled veg tan leather and genuine exotic skins. Here's a pic of two exotic skin type:

That's elephant trunk on the left and elephant body on the right. You can use just about any type material you may want.
