TracyMoss Report post Posted March 3, 2008 I am having a pair of custom stingray boots made and I am carving the tops. My question is how should I complete them to send to my boot maker. He is Mexican (legal alien) but it is still hard to communicate and he has never laced the tops, which is what I want to do. I want to lacethe top panels together on the side with a Gaucho braid, but son't know exactly how to prepare them so that he can assemble the boots. Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks TM
TomSwede Report post Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) Maybe he has a pattern from wich he can make a duplicate that you can take home and make your carved pieces after and measure out the lacing holes/illustrate how you want the fitting of the braid. Maybe not much of help but that's all I can think of now except maybe try to find someone who can interpretate your dialog. Tom Edit: Hey just noticed that you are gonna have STINGRAY BOOTS, that'll be something else. Hope we get to see them. There's a thread somewhere here called sumting like " show your favourite pair of boots". Not many posts and if your boots gets on there no one will ever dare posting again, lol. TracyMoss Report post Posted March 3, 2008 I already have the boot top pattern and I know how I want to lace it, but I was wanting to know how to constuct them so that he will be able to sew them on the boots. Thanks for trying, anyone else?

Timbo Report post Posted March 4, 2008 (edited) You'll have to get them tooled and finished then give them to him to sew the vamps and heel counters on. Then he'll need to do the linings as well. Once he has them this far, he can give them back to you to lace the 2 halves together. Then when you're done he can turn them into a pair of boots. Make sure and check with him to allow enough or not too much room in the boot tops as too narrow and you'll never get them on and too big and they just won't look right. Allow for your lacing too. Tim Edit: He might want to sew the vamp and heel together first, before you lace the tops. That way you'll know where you have to lace them too. TracyMoss Report post Posted March 4, 2008 Thanks Timbo, I had just discussed that same option with a friend of mine. Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to send them to my boot maker soon. I post my boot tops and then my boots when they are done. TM
