Trav Report post Posted March 31, 2009 Hello all, my question is ,do any of you have a decorative stitch you could share? I build custom knives and most of my stitching consist of the two needle saddle stitch. I also use a single needle to do a running stitch ,such as when you skip every other punch hole. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks , Trav
barra Report post Posted March 31, 2009 I don't know how you would apply these to what you do but these are a few I use on occasion. Back stitch. This looks like saddle stitch from the top side but forms a different pattern on the backside. It uses only one needle. 1. o 2. o 3. o 4. o 5. o 6. o Start at hole 2. go back to hole 1. Then hole 3, Next hole 2. Continue the sequence 4-3, 5-4, 6-5. Herringbone stitch and baseball stitch are similar in many respect Blanket stitch. This is the overlocked/serged stitch pattern you see on the edge of blankets (does anyone use blankets anymore) Barra.
Suze Report post Posted March 31, 2009 if you look up "frankenpurse" in the show off section - I used blanket stich on the outside and a double running stich on the small gusset. (which looks like a two needle stich but isn't) would think that if you would look up embroidry stiches and use the ones that are more straight line, you could find a lot of varity for your work look up "blackwork" it is a type of embrodry from the 15/1600's

Suze Report post Posted March 31, 2009 http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=14875 it's in the show off section of this forum - not a website..... it's my first project and Johanna didn't have any leather laceing that was "good anymore" (it dry rotted) so I had to fall back and punt. Suze Report post Posted March 31, 2009 gee thanks Trav - after looking at all the other first projects - I feel that mine is a bit "lacking" that blanket stich was not easy the second time around the bag (part of the reason that there is only one layer around the smaller part - the other, not enough thread) I called it frankenpurse because it has 3 different ends of thread in it and none of them really "matched" I used the heaviest one on the double running stich, because I got frustrated with an awl and just used a paper punch to put tiny hole in it. Johanna is not happy with the name.
