Members Spence Posted July 26, 2009 Members Report Posted July 26, 2009 Can someone put up a link or phone #? I'd like to see what everyone is raving about before I call them. Even with the cadillacs removed, I have trouble doing close in work at night. Quote Spence Mendoza, TX, USA
esantoro Posted July 26, 2009 Report Posted July 26, 2009 I'm also curious to know which light this is. My understanding is that it is this headlamp: http://www.qedisit.com/minitec.htm Can someone put up a link or phone #? I'd like to see what everyone is raving about before I call them. Members Deb59 Posted July 27, 2009 Members Report Posted July 27, 2009 I have been thinking about getting one of the techlights, but I have rogressive bifocals. Does anyone using the techlights have bifocals? If so do you have any problems with them? Thanks Deb Quote
Members cybertracy Posted July 27, 2009 Members Report Posted July 27, 2009 Hi Richard, thanks for the info, I'm struggling with a lamp/magnifier and find I have to contort all kinds of ways to keep from pounding the underside of the light with my mallot! You mentioned if you call you get the price mentioned in the Leathercrafter's Journal. Do you mean if you call the techlight company directly (from the number on their website) or do you have a different phone number from the ad in the magazine? Thank you, tracy Quote wag more, bark less . . . happy tails, tracy
Contributing Member HideShop Posted August 5, 2009 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 5, 2009 Sorry to be so long in replying but just spent a week with Jesse Smith in Colorado trying to improve my skills. Just call the number on the add or web page and tell them you saw the add in Leather Journal Mag. I am going to order the hard wired this week for myself and send my old one back to Jesse. He uses a magnifying hood but found he likes this one even without the light as you still have peripheral vision. I do wear bifocals and have no problem wearing them with the techlight. The only thing I have found with the battery style is you don't realize as the batteries wear down that the light spot keeps getting smaller so you keep working wondering why you are not seeing well. Guess that may be caused by old age also. I do know that I would not work without one anymore it is one of my most important tools. Richard Quote
Members Deb59 Posted August 7, 2009 Members Report Posted August 7, 2009 Thanks for the bifocal info. I took a class from Jesse in Ft. Worth. I learned a lot in just that class. A whole week would be GREAT!! Glad you enjoyed it. Deb Quote
Members yan Posted August 7, 2009 Members Report Posted August 7, 2009 for those with bifocal lense. there is a ''new'' type of progressive they call ''computer lense'' they are made for medium (about 18'' to 2 ') and reading distance (about 12''). Quote
Contributing Member HideShop Posted August 8, 2009 Author Contributing Member Report Posted August 8, 2009 I just spoke to the owner at QED yesterday and they have a light that is not on their web site that I ordered. It is hard wired and has two lights but they are not halogen so it will not create the heat and the need to be replaced. It was created for someone who does inlay on fret boards. A little pricey but I really beleive in their product and the folks there are great to deal with. Will post after I have a chance to use it. Richard Quote
esantoro Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Got my techlite with leather headband yesterday. Very nice. I got the magnifying lenses marked 3 and 5. The 5 seems to be too strong and requires me to strain my neck to put my eyes closer to my work than I normally would. The 3 seems to work the best for me, but I think the 2 would be best to use in conjunction with a stitching machine or for reading at a comfortable distance. In choosing a magnifying lens, it may be better to think about how far from your work you would like to have your head and eyes rather than just go by magnifying power. I have had these "new" type of lenses for years. They are called trifocals. Once you have them, you won't go back to bifocals. Quote
