CharlieR Report post Posted May 28, 2009 I went in to a Tandy several weeks ago and they said they would order me a latigo hide--after several calls and several excuses, I still have no latigo---SO, I would love to hear some of you guys reply to this one also. saddles Report post Posted May 29, 2009 We use Triple C latigo for reins and latigos and Salz for strings and laces. The Triple C edges and rubs very well. The Salz is very strong but it takes a lot more to finish it. Weaver has Triple C and I think Montana Leather might as well. You can get Salz from Harvey J. Boutin & Sons in Califorina. We've also used the Thoroughbred latigo, but it was a little stretchy for my liking and a little harder to finish as well. Hope that helps a little, I have phone numbers if you need them! HarryB Report post Posted May 29, 2009 Weaver is good and I use Wickett & Craig. I prefer the dry, veg tanned latigo. But that's just me.
kevinhopkins Report post Posted May 30, 2009 Hi... It's gotta be Triple C. It's what I sell here in the store, and in all my years I've never had anything to complain about. When you put triple C latigo along side the cheap stuff that's available in some retail stores, well.... I really shouldn't say any more. But Triple C latigo will spoil you rotten! RWB Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I'm with brewer. Thoroughbred is good. Edges slick really well with water and Feibings white or yellow paste saddle soap.
JAM Report post Posted June 30, 2009 I really like the Horween "Little Big Horn" burgundy latigo from Sheridan Leather. It's darker, and feels "waxier" and "fuller. And so far no nasty hard spots like I've gotten in some Weaver hides. Julia
