ClayB Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Jim sent me this tracing pattern and photocarve from a recent class he held and gave permission to share them, so here they are. I think this would have been a fun class to attend.
Vickie Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Jim sent me this tracing pattern and photocarve from a recent class he held and gave permission to share them, so here they are. I think this would have been a fun class to attend. It was a wonderful class and with 17 different John Wayne's....they were all JOHN WAYNE'S. For those of you that missed it, you missed a great time and a great class! Vickie

ClayB Report post Posted June 23, 2009 So is this going to be the Official June/July challenge? Seems like the "official" monthly challenge thing died awhile ago. This would have made a great pattern for one though. Lots of people are intimidated when it comes to carving faces, me included. It would be interesting to see the different approaches people would take in carving the facial features in a pattern like this, and it could make for some interesting discussion. Clay, A carving challange motivates people to tool,,,,even the ones who don't post all their results. Maybe worth a try again even if not monthly but, just when interesting subject gets some visability here, like this one. Regis
Deb59 Report post Posted June 23, 2009 I was one of the 17 members in this class. I learned a lot!! It was fun to see everyones finished product. They all looked like John Wayne, but no two were the same. Vicki arranged for a gentleman from Louisiana who was taking the class and has a professional frame shop, bring along his matting equipment. He cut double mats for all of us to go along with our picture. (Mine was too damp to put the sealer on, I fill finish it this next weekend and try to get it posted.) If you ever get a chance to take one of Jim's classes you will really enjoy it and learn alot. I kind of like the challenge idea, but maybe monthly is too short of time on some projects. Many of us work full time jobs, run businesses, have kids with activities etc in addition to any Custom leather orders (so we can support our habit......) how about a quarterly challenge? Thanks - Deb
