Celtic Knot Wallet Bilfold

Recommended Posts

This is a wallet I did in a leather class. It is has two pockets on each side for cards and a pocket for bills. It has gold accents on the outer knot and a light green on the inside of the outer knot. The inner knot is highlighted with gold as well. The background is Mahogany.

Turned out pretty nice, CarvedOn. Your carving is smooth, and I really like that mahogony background.

Very nice work. When making a wallet such as this. What thickness oz. are you getting it thinned too? How do you thin it? I work for a Shoe manufacturer called West Coast Shoe Co. www.wescoboots.com and of course we have the equipment to make leather thin.

But me starting out work on my own leather projects, how do you thin it? Soak in water and shave it down?

Sorry for the noob ?'S, but thank in advance.

Most of us buy our leather already split to the thickness we want.

That's what I do. I use a lot of wallet kits. I do the tooling and lacing.

Ok, that makes more sense now. The leather I get from work is on average 7oz. and goes down to 3.5-5.25 sometimes for the gusset material on the boots.

The lacing I see on the edges of the wallet, is that a vinyl or plastic lace/cord?

I used a wallet kit, so all the parts were in the package. I used the lacing supplied in the kit, it was leather lacing. I also used a plastic template on this particular wallet to transfer the Celtic Knot design onto the damp leather. I glued the leather to a piece of flat granite with rubber cement so that the leather would not loose shape as I was tooling it. I am beginning to cut my own leather interiors and exteriors for wallets. Sorry for the delay in answering and thanks to you all who jumped in and helped!
