Roller Foot Install problem Singer 31-15

Recommended Posts

I got a singer 31-15 and want to use it for sewing leather, it didnt have a roller foot and I just got one installed however, when it picks up the bobbin thread it seems bound up and wont pull any out. It worked fine before changing it out. Wondering if anyone might know how to remedy this.

Thanks!

Eric

Best suggestion is to contact your local sewing machine repair person or call the company you got the roller foot from and ask the questions of their tech people

Thanks Tim after messing with it for a few hours I think I'm gonna take it down to the sewing place and have them set it up, before I take an axe to it lol :ranting2:

did you change your feed dog and plate when you installed the roller foot? It is a different design then dog used with a presser foot. Make sure that you have enough pressure on the roller foot. You can adjust the roller foot distance from the needle, run it as close to the needle as you can.

Hey Eric, Steve H. is right. Also make sure that the roller foot is coming all the way down on the plate. With some roller feet, you may have to adjust the height of the foot. Thanks, Steve

I have another question regarding this dilema. I have the same machine and tried the same thing, the problem I had is the top thread was pulling the bottom thread all the way up. When I use the presser foot I have the same problem when going around corners and the thread is no longer under the foot. I tried to adjust the bobbin tension and it helped a little but didnt solve the problem. the local machine shop I have here wasnt alot of help so I went back to the original presser feet, I have been told that the roller foot makes a huge difference so if you guys have any suggestions please let me know. Sorry to Hijack.

It sounds like you are saying, that you are getting loops on top of your work.since you alread have tightened the bobbin tension, try gradually letting off your machine tension, till you get a change. At corners your last stitch before change direction let needle travel all the way down in your work, then travel up about a 1/4 inch with out leaving your work, raise your presser foot, rotate your work, drop your presser foot, and begin to sew. You may need to increase the pressure on your roller foot, since you dont have an outside toe this important..I only use the roller foot on light applications ,chap leather, with 69, or 92 thread size.

Hold on to your needle thread the first 3stitches & if the tension is correct it'll sew.

I think I have the same problem. My 31-15 seemed to work fine with the normal presser foot ( i never sewed with it in this configuration but a sewing machine tech did).

I then switched out to a roller foot with a single dog feed. Since then, I have'nt been able to get it to stitch properly. The needle thread gets wrapped up around the shuttle.

No idea what is causing this.

Sound like the same problem?
