DG Leather Report post Posted October 22, 2009 I made a knife sheath for first time. I laced the side, not stitched. I am wondering if there are any idea of how to protect the lace from getting cut from the blade. What could i use?
DCKNIVES Report post Posted October 22, 2009 The first thing to do would be to remove your lacing and put in a welt, then relace.A welt is another piece of leather 3/8"-1/2" wide that goes between the front and back that protects the stitching or lacing. This is a standard on all sheaths Welt thickness can be adjusted to the thickness of the blade to aid in retention, or do like most and just use the same leather that you just did the main body with.Dave
DG Leather Report post Posted October 23, 2009 Dave, Is this welt, using the same leather, glued in? Because I am doing the double loop basic lace with kangaroo lace. I have not yet stitched leather. I am trying to learn from books. It is hard for me to comprehend and have not yet watched instructions on you tube but will soon. Thank you for your help!
