Members Xothique Posted April 5, 2008 Members Report Posted April 5, 2008 Here's my latest completed mask, and my first attempt at carving the feathers in. I think that there's quite a lot of room for improvement, but on the whole, I'm quite pleased with this fellow. For those interested - I used Fiebings Aqua Green and Turquoise dyes, and painted the beak and the highlights with antique bronze acrylic paint. :D Quote
TomSwede Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 Looking good Xo'! Nice work with the colours and I like the highlighted that provides a frame for the goodies. Looking forward to that raven now, hint hint. Quite challenging that is with it's beak high up on the forehead and then almost now head at all on top. Now where does one put the eyes when transforming this to a human head. Good luck! Tom Quote
Members Myriam Posted April 5, 2008 Members Report Posted April 5, 2008 Just simply beautiful! I like how you blended the colors and the bronze gives it just the right highlight. Quote
Members Storm Posted April 5, 2008 Members Report Posted April 5, 2008 Very nice work. Where's Leatheroo when we need a mask critique? HA! Quote
Members Xothique Posted April 5, 2008 Author Members Report Posted April 5, 2008 Tom - a Raven certainly is a challenge with that huge heavy beak. Lovely looking bird though. I will have a play around with design and see what I can come up with.:D Everyone else - thank you for your kind words, they are very much appreciated! :D Quote
Members lindatt Posted April 5, 2008 Members Report Posted April 5, 2008 Oh M'Gosh that is really neat.... love the beak. Linda Quote

It is great that there are so many mask-makers - and so many different styles, isn't it? It's great to bounce ideas around too. I must be honest, I feel a bit in awe of everyone else. I still have such a lot to learn with leather. That said - people here are so friendly and welcoming, I'm finding this a very enjoyable community. Quote
Members TomBanwell Posted April 5, 2008 Members Report Posted April 5, 2008 I looked at your website, and I must say you do really beautiful work! I haven't made any papier mache masks, but I have made several latex masks. Each medium has its own beauty! Quote
