16th Century Cavalry Hemet

Recommended Posts

This is my 1st time posting here.

This is one of my recent projects. It's based on a 16th century cavalry helmet/English Civil war Helmet.

It's made of laminated plates of 8oz vegtan and water hardened. I have since added the lower half of a fencing mask to

it for SCA rapier fighting.

We can see them in your last three posts--very nice! It looks like something a Samurai-jockey would wear :)

Cool. Did you consider articulating the lames of the neck protection?

That thing is cool! Looks like a tremendous amount of protection. Thanks for sharing.

I'd thought about it but chose not to. That's the only part that is not hardened.

The flexibility makes it easier to take on and off since the fencing mask was added.

That's a really neet work!I have 3 questions 1)How may oz was the leather? 2)How did you mold the head cup and what did you use as a mold?(I suspect it is 2 pieces) and last 3)Did you harden it using boiling water or in the oven? Post some pictures of it with the face mask on. Again-great work!
