Newbie trying my hand on a moto seat

I'm a newbie to this tooling world. My wife bought me a stamp kit and a piece of hide (horse butt) so it's what I used (can't take back a gift from the wife). I saw a finished edge online, I know it has to be from an artist on this site, so credit is due for helping me get a better look to my seat. I would do certain things different but figured, it's my first and it's going on my bike so I'm happy with it. I want to thank all those on this site, your contributions give so many ideas and I may have never taken a chance but thanks to you all, I've found a new hobby.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out the attachment to the bottom piece. I don't need an entire piece covering the bottom of the pan since no one can see under it, so I'm doing an edge thing with a cutout. Oh, and practicing the heck out of that mexican round braid deal. Man, I can't get that thing correct. Practice, practice, practice.

Thanks Kustomizer, it's getting there. The braid is coming along, after several tries. I did it one more time and only had one mistake in it. I don't think it'll be a show piece but I'll know I did it all!

Well, I'm done. I know there are several mistakes that I missed while doing the seat and I sure as hell didn't want to start all over. I ended up doing a triple stitch lacing. I used 7 oz. horsebutt hide. The hide had some blemishes that I actually liked since it gave it a weathered look. (My bike isn't a show stopper) I used denatured alcohol prior to oiling and waxing. This helped even some of the "weathering" out so it wasn't in a weird spot. I like it and I'm going to ride the hell out of the seat and bike. This site is awesome with so many ideas. I've already purchased another piece of hide to start some other smaller projects. Yes, I'm not crazy to try another seat just this soon, and I do work backwards (big to small). Thanks to everyone that places a post. All the Q/A help a great deal. This site rocks!red_bandana.giffeedback.gif
