Leather Things You Put In Your Pocket Or Carry With You.

Recommended Posts

I'd like to pull together a collection of 'pocket' sized and personal leathergoods ideas that folk can make, along with some pictures to give some ideas.

If I start the ball rolling can you please contribute your ideas?

Duplicates of an idea are great as long as yours look different to the rest.

  • Neck purse
  • Neck Lighter case
  • Belt pouch

Ray, I've been making money clips, they're quick and easy.

Magic money clips, make-up bags, cigarette cases, wallets, checkbooks, eyeglass cases, camera cases, cell phone holsters/cases, iPod cases, hair accessories, earrings, chokers, necklaces, medicine bags, watch fobs, keychains, compacts, address books, photo albums, flash drive sleeves, flashlight or knife holsters/cases, does that help at all?

Thanks, Holly. The magnets in those 4 were way too strong, I've had to get lighter ones. I had the black one in my pocket, reached over a file cabinet, and actually stuck to it. I get them here.

Great ideas Tim and Dave - anyone got anything else? How about pics of the stuff Johanna mentioned?

Holly, your pocket stuff is lovely especially the wristbands - bring out the pictures!

BTW, Luke. I have copied all your keys and I'm coming round late tonight to drink the entire contents of your beer fridge! LOL

Next time I dump my purse, I'll take some pics. Luke- pocket items for a woman are different than pocket items for a man. I have everything I need in my purse to be away for a few days except my laptop. ;)

Ray, I stole the new emoticon.

Luke's comment on pocket size got me thinking (a rare event).

How about something to carry them in such as a back pack or one of those pouch or bag things that you wear round your waist with a belt attached (a fanny pack I believe they're called in the US).

Or a pair of braces (suspenders) to keep those trousers up once those pockets are full. And maybe a truss.

And no, no pictures as it was just a thought or two.

Love your stuff, Holly. I'd like to see a picture of your really nice braided wristbands on here...

Sorry Gary:

Fun ideas though - I particularly like the idea of backpack to put it all in.

Anyone got more pictures?

Okay, here goes. I've included one other style too, from a Tandy kit, that I'd done with a group of kids up in PA.

For the braided bracelets, I sometimes use "plastic" lace to get colors I've not found yet in leather, particularly for local schools. I prefer to dye the leather strip black or a dark brown, then wrap it - no matter what color wrap I'm using. However, you can see the effect when that ISN'T done with this maroon and orange one (VA Tech colors)

(Looking into a womans purse is like getting a glimpse of hell !) oops.gif

A pocket or purse should contain a Jack Sap ( or a Violence pouch, according to my daughter).

It gives an attacker something different to think of !

I haven't done these kind of bracelets before. Are you putting something inside for it to hold it's shape like that?

I learned how to make them courtesy of Roo, who posted a video of it on Youtube, and also sent me a drawing/directions. There are a few people here doing them.

I cut a strip of leather, stain it black, set the snaps, and punch an extra hole for the lace to feed through. The wrapped part is about 10 times the length of the band; the braided part is about 6 times it. The width of your strap and the thickness of the lace can affect those measurements. YOU MUST CUT ENOUGH, because unlike most projects, it's nigh impossible to splice more in.
