Members Leatherimages Posted February 22, 2010 Members Report Posted February 22, 2010 Those rough outs are for ranch work and the owner is on top of keeping them clean. Thank you for the complements. I'm glad I'm not the only bootmaker here too. Yes, I do intend to send a pair to Sheridan this year. I just sent off a pair of RO Waxed French Calf to a Kansas cowboy. (I'll post pics elsewhere). I wanted to add a coat of wax for extra protection, but it loses so much of it's beauty. I did that once, and the customer wanted it taken off. It didn't go so well. From my excursion to the Wickenberg Leather Show, I brought back a water resisting product from Bee Natua,l that is supposed to be good for "suede". I'm going to try it out and see how much it changes the surface. Obenaufs Leather Protector, which I really like and sell to wildland firefighters, really darkens light colored rough out. Keep up the good work! Quote Back to the bench, Paul "When you finally get your wings, don't complain about the wind in your face."

If you can't find anyone email me and I will do some more checking. fnecustomboots@netzero.net Quote

Members jeeperaz Posted February 23, 2010 Members Report Posted February 23, 2010 (edited) thanks guys....jeeparaz...the only course that is still running near me is one year full time.... i was looking for something shorter or part time... See if you can contact/email Tim Skyrme who runs that website I posted earlier. He authored a book on shoemaking (he's in AUS) and he might know of a place or.... if you get really lucky he might be willing to teach you. Also, the link to HCC someone posted above is incorrect. Try this: http://www.thehcc.or...scus/discus.cgi You will not find a better resource than that website. It's not the easiest to navigate but the people there and the info shared is much like this place... friendly and full of help. You should join and ask if anyone knows of learning options in AUS. Members bootsmt Posted February 28, 2010 Author Members Report Posted February 28, 2010 Bootsmt, Very nice boots. Do you make your own last? I use a commercial last and alter build it up to get the measurements taken. I'm in Kalispell, where are you? I am in Ronan. We are neighbors! Do you have a shop in Kalispell? What do you make? Members 3DArcher Posted March 1, 2010 Members Report Posted March 1, 2010 Hi Frank, Uh, I have a work bench in the corner of my bedroom where I mutilate round leather coasters with my feeble attempts at carving. My goal is to eventually make custom hiking boots and shoes. Where do you get your Last from? Wished they had a custom Boot & Shoe Making category here on Leatherworker.net. It's hard to find anything on Crispin Colloguy, my browser hangs and crashes on that site all the time so I can never read anything. Quote

Keith go to ---- customcowboybootandshoeforum.com I think that is correct. You could just search for the Custom Cowboy Boot And Shoe Forum I haven't bought any last for a while. Email me at fnecustomboots@netzero.net and I will send you some sources. There are sources on that forum also. Frank Quote
