Hi,

I'm going to buy some Irish Barbour linen thread which I want to use on small projects, like wallet and card holder.

But I'm confused about the sizes of Irish Barbour linen thread. 3/18 or 3/25? What sizes will you suggest? And the needle sizes?

Any input would be appreciated.

Chris

The hand sewing thread like that is sometimes spoken in cord size, that picture is 3cord which is relatively small, I use 6 cord with a "00" harness needle (think its that size, either that or "0"). However with the 6cord I do have to finish the ends properly to get them to thread. With 3 cord I could probably just wax the thread and thread it to the needle without playing with the thread much.

Unless your talking machine sewing in which case I have no clue because thats all different and I still dont have one of those.

Hello,

Does the 3 cord thread go well with the small project like wallet and card holder?

For 3 cord thread, uses #2 or #3 needle?

The bigger the thread number is, the larger it is? The bigger the needle number is, the smaller it is?

Anyone have a chart for the best use of needle size and thread number?

Thank you.

Hi Chris,

Machine thread is usually size 20, so 3 cord is 3/20. Barbour's is part of the Coats dynasty. I tried to attach a file but couldn't, send me your email.
