Found A Great Book

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just got delivery , when I arrived home last night, of a new book. Check out their site if you are unaware of it:   http://www.proleptic.net/. I found a book I have not seen before,"Floral Pattern Drawing for the Artistically Impared". There are not alot of this sort of thing that I have found.  The author...Pete Gorrell goes through the various stages of creating your own floral patterns. I just lucked out finding it. Proleptic gave me great service too. I have the Sheridan book and that was $30.00. This one runs $18.95 plus $3.00 S&H in side the states. Sorry I can't find a better...ah bigger image but I am attaching what I was able to scarf. HA!

That sounds like a great book and thank you for the link I am going to add it to my favorites. It looks like a lot of good things there.

Here is a book I just bought for those interested in medeival leatherwork. Not only pictures of pouches but line drawings showing how they were made with enough detail that it will be easy to make a pattern from. Contrary to popular belief the medieval flapped pouch was seldom just a pouch, but was actually several pouches combined into one unit. Just like we put several pockets on a pair of pants. The book also has a short piece on sheaths and leather covered bottles as well as leather bottels.

I have a catalog coming from those guys and find that they also have a lot of stuff you can't find at Tandy. There is another great site www.conchos.com. I have also gone to their business here in Califonia. They have some awesome conchos and belt buckles and sets. Their prices are killer and quality great. The guy to talk to is Jason. A buckle set that might cost $12 at Tandy can be had for $4.50.

They used to, anyway. Never know what they sell now. Do you have any idea when their "restructuring" will be done? I'm curious as to when they will have a new and current catalog.

Storm,

Have you had a chance to get into that book?

How's it working for you?

I know Pete's stuff and most of it isn't my style(though he does a nice job), but I have learned other good things from him. Maybe the basics of drawing he presents would be useful as well.

Let us know what you think.

I am a frustrated patern drawer(fancy words) and willing to try something new.

Thanks GH

we have a copy of that book in the storehere in portland and I have flipped through it a few times. it is relatively new to the market, since pet gorrell gave us the copy of it hot from the press in october of last year, while we were at the pendleton trade show here in oregon. it is a good book, but you still have to have some artistic talent to grasp the concept of what he is trying to get across to you. I agree, there needs to be more books out on the market like this

You can order the book directly from Pete Gorrell at 3000 CR 570, Gardner, CO 81040, Phone, 719-746-2311. It is an excellent book. I have one and find it extremely useful. Pete would be happy to send one off to you.

Hey all

I read the thread and just wanted to put it out that I have a brand spanking new one that was given to me for Christmas. Problem is that I already have one, so I don't need this one. If anyone is interested, I would be willing to make a good deal. I am just going to buy another pattern book that I don't have.

Thanks.

Greetings from Round Rock, Texas

If you still have the book, PM me and I will take it. I have been thinking about it for a few months now so I guess it is time to jump on a good deal

Thanks,

I have one, and I really like the way he presents the scroll design process. It can be applied to various other styles of scroll work as well.
