BearMan Report post Posted May 30, 2010 Hi Everybody, It's been a while since I've posted anything. I was reminded yesterday,,, Have you forgotten Mom's Birthday is tomorrow??? Well,,, I guess I had! She does needlepoint,,, & I knew that she was always loosing her pin cushion,,, so this is what I whipped up at the last moment. Please don't look to close. Total time invested,,, including the design... 6 1/2 hours. I wasn't able to do my normal casing, so I cheated with a vaccuum bag. It's not the best way to do it,,, but it works,,, kinda. It's lined with maroon uphostery leather, rough side out,,, & it's stitched with 8 spi. I made it out of 5/6 oz ,,, but if I was to do it over,,, I'd use some 7/8, for more stiffness. After oiling it, I was only ably to put it in the sun for about 45 mins, before coloring the background, & applying the finish. Thanks for looking,,, not so close. MADMAX22 Report post Posted May 30, 2010 Just the fact that you got that finished in 6.5 hrs is amazing in itself IMHO. Looks great Ed, wish my last minute gifts looked that good. By the way what size thread do you use?

pete Report post Posted May 30, 2010 Really Neat! How did you do the "scallops" around the cushion? Was it a veiner that you used as a filagree punh? pete(I can hardly wait for my new maul) adams

Ed the"BearMan" I couldnt believe this was only 6 1/2 hours of work. the stamping looks longer. as a real noob. I got a couple questions if you care to respond, one already asked. the scallops around the center. they are so clean and sharp, how did you do that? another is, the acorns. the decorative cuts in the middle seem to me to have a bevel on both sides of the cut. so far from little I have seen you dont get that with a normal swivel knife. is there a specific blade you use to get that effect? you certainly didnt bevel every single one of those cuts. in any case, how could mom not love something so nicely done regardless of speed.
