TwinOaks Report post Posted April 21, 2008 I'm looking to replace a few if not all my Craftools that have been recently purchased (I'm keeping the ones that are 30+ yrs old because they're made well). Beard tools are pricey, so I looked for Barry King tools. Montana Leather has them listed at one price, with a corresponding part number that exactly matches Tandy. Hidecrafter also has them listed, with different part numbers and at approximately 4 times the cost. Are these the same tools?? Is it even the same Barry King? I've seen the posts here, but can't determine the answer to my question. I do know that there's contact info for him, and I will go that route, but I'd like to know that I'm getting SS hand made tools by Barry King, and not some repackaged craftools. Does he have two production lines or something? Thanks for your replies, Mike

Which tools are you considering? I would just order direct from Barry. That way you eliminate the middle man. Just my two cents Marlon
ClayB Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Montana leather sells Craftools and also carries Barry King's tools. They are completly different lines. This should take you to the catalog of Barry's tools. I don't have a lot of Barry's tools, but the ones I have don't have any numbers on them. Barry makes good tools. Like Marlon said, you can probably save some money ordering them directly from Barry. bruce johnson Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Barry so far has not been numbering the tools he sells directly other than bargrounders. However the ones he used to sell through TLF a few years ago were numbered with a stock number, and the HideCrafters ones may be as well. That is the confusion a lot of people have buying ebay auctions for his tools - they have numbers. Not numbering his direct sales tools has been confusing at times. You order a #3 thinking you have a #2, and indeed, you already had the #3. You eyeball one at the show, and dang if you don't have twins when you get home. Barry is planning to start at least size numbering tools, but has a lot of irons in the fire at present.
