Motorcycle Toolroll

This is the way i would love my stitching edge to look.

Hi

Been making toolrolls and just cant get the leather end cap right,im wetting the leather but when i try to get the edge bent over so that i have something to stitch to the stitching lip just seems to want to return to its flat shape,so im handling the leather a lot trying and leaving marks,can someone please explain in full how they go about this.

Noticed a lovely toolroll on another forum and the ends looked perfect,when asking the guy how he done it he wouldnt explain as he said it was one of his secrets he could'nt reveal,so just hoping theres someone that will give up their secret procedure.

Would be thankful for any help.

PS: The Cap ends are circles for rounded Toolroll

Syd ....glad that you found us.....Go down to the heading "Historical Reenactments"

and have a look at the tutorial on Mug making. The way that he put the bottom in

the Mug is the same way you are going to form the ends of your tool roll.

Yeah, whatever Picasso. I use a glass or can or piece of tubing, like in the link above, whatever is the size of what I'm making and a good hose clamp. Wet the leather down till it can't take any more, put it over your device, put the clamp on and tighten it down. Sometimes I have to adjust it after I put it on the first time but just screw around with it and you'll get the hang of it.I leave it on there until the piece is dry.

What I do is use a piece of 4 inch PVC pipe about 3 inches high with the top edge beveled to the inside, then I use a wooden disk that will fit inside of the pipe with enough clearance for whatever weight of leather im using for the endcaps, I wet the leather, lay it on the pipe, set the disk on top and tap it dowm the pipe until it bottoms out against a flat surface this has been working for me and its pretty simple
