Couldnt shake the urge to attempt a Koi seat after seeing Davids beautiful work, I used part of his design but he said he had no problem with it. Its just for my own enjoyment but Id also like to get some opinions from you guys

Looking very good, nice work with backgrounding. A bit dark on the overall look but maybe this was the intention.

See you got some decorativ braiding going on there, very nice.

I think that's the photography, Tom. I'm betting this seat's color looks awesome in the daylight. :specool:

What backgrounder tool did you use?

Love the Koi!  Once again I can see that there are many possibilties fro adapting tattoo flash to leather. I recently scored a ton of Japanese flash and it is amazing.

By means of explanation for those who are not aware. Tom...that does not include you. I mean you are the illustrated man. HA! Tattoo Flash is the black and white are created and used as a transfer prior to the tattooist going at it with the ink and needles. The Japanes Irazumi tattoos worn mainly by the Japanese Yakuza are some

of the finest. Love those beautiful bottom feeders. HA!

I used the S631 craftool seeder for the background , and your right Tom it did come out darker than I intended, Im still learning as far as dyeing goes, but I just got an airbrush and plan to try more things, would love to get some Japanese flash, storm, where did you get it? Im gonna do another seat with "Old School" on it for a guy I know building an old school bobber, I im gonna put al "old school" traditional tattoo designs on it.

I'm all with you about dyeing, lots of guessing and trying to get it going. The rod tube I posted a while ago actually came out a lot darker and not really like planned but got lucky and got an even nicer result.

Looking forward to see your old school seat, will you be testing out the airbrush with it?

The funny thing is that the more I look at your background on this piece the more I see the texture of ray skin. This was used in the handles of Japanese swords. Very cool effect!

I like the color. I think the whole thing looks great. I really like how well that background worked with the japanese art. It really suits it well. Nice job !!

Rickey, very nice looking Koi, the tooling is real nice and I also love the background effect you've done. It looks real sharp.

One thing you might want to look at doing on the next one, is cut the top seat piece a tad smaller on the front end, this will help to eliminate the crinkle you've got on this one.

Thanks Ken, thats the one thing Ive not been able to get right, Im almost thinking its the pan causing it because of how much the lip turns under in the front, Im gonna try doing what you said though

Heres the back of the seat, I tried a little tweaking on the dye and it came out nicer than the front I think

It was buckskin dye and I airbrushed medium brown around the edges and then antiqued with medium brown paste.
