builderofstuff Report post Posted August 8, 2010 I really enjoy braiding leather, and I really enjoy making lace from scraps. The next logical step would seem to be learning to make whips. I'm wondering how to get started and what kinds of things I should make for practice. In most areas you usually don't start off making the most complicated project you can, I would assume making whips would be the same. So if anyone has suggestions I would appreciate the help. Aggiebraider Report post Posted August 9, 2010 I have yet to make any whips, but have been researching how to do so for a few months now. I found a guy that posted 10 or 12 videos that covers a lot of the technical aspects and steps involved, but it doesnt cover everything. I think his name is bernie46 or something like that. The Ron Edwards books are supposed to be really good and he wrote like 6 or 7 books that covers almost every aspect of making whips from normal, usable whips to very fancy ones. That would be my suggestion on the route to take CW

Bevan Report post Posted August 10, 2010 Bevan, where are you? Here i am I first started with a set of dvds from old mate Bernie , he shows you from start to finnish , he explains every step and why . he gives you all the lengths, widths and tapers you will need to make a 8foot bullwhip to perfection , the only other thing i had plaited was a hat band , 4 plait ,,, wahoo My first whip was a 8 foot16 strand bullwhip straight from Bernie's dvd Once i understood the working out of the lengths and diamiters, i got hold of Ron Edwards , How to make a Whip.( this was for me to make a stockwhip) If you think you need to start small then muck around with a few hat bands , dog leads or what ever ya fancy but i do strongly recomend Bernie's dvds for understanding the proper process of whip making !!
