Vaquero1,

The Adler class 4 machine was the forrunner to the 104 class. The 4-4 was for sewing leather covers, traveling bags, coach works, etc. It has a moveable presser foot. It might be similar to the 104-2, 104-25, 104-6 0r 104-8. I am not certain which one. That would help in trying to find a operations and parts manual. We need pictures of the feet and feeding system to better know what machine is was the early version of. Hope that helps.

Hi Vaquero1

I have the same machine with cylinder arm class 5-27. Like shopatcher says, the class 4 is the forrunner to the class 104 and class 5 is the forrunner to class 105. Class 4 and 5 is the same machine with a flat bed and cylinder arm. The manual is hard to find! I have tried to find it for some years with no luck. My machine also has a moveable jump foot. I have set it up with a speed Reducer and a speed adjustable clutch motor. In addition, I got many different feet’s, throat plates and Accessories. The machine class is very similar to the Singer class 45k, it so alike that you can use the same manual. http://parts.singerco.com/ in this web site is part lists and manuals. Here are some pictures of the 45K http://www.industrialsewmachine.com/webdoc1/used/used-singers/45k.htm look at the 45K-37 same as yours!?

The Artisan 45k manual is also on the Internet to find and use, it is similar but the original is very hard to find. The German company http://www.sieck.de/ has some class 4 and 5 for sale, but no parts and manuals. My machine works fine but I have a problem with the bobbin tension screw (see the pictures) the head is worn out and I cannot find a new one anywhere! If you got a spare, please let me know! The Adler class 4/5 is a very nice machine, but part is hard to find. I got a newer Adler 204-64 who is the successor of the Adler 104 machine, that is a good machine, but the older machine is made of better material and has a and has a much nicer sound, it spins like a cat. The problem is parts of course, if I cannot find parts anymore I have to replace it!

There are not so many of these machines in the USA because of the Singer 45k, so you will find it mostly in Germany and Europe. If you know of any bobbin parts for it (Adjustment screw 2,3 mm and 13 mm. long, the screws are in inches because of the age)

Please let me know!

thanks Shoepatcher, perhaps this information can help me finding the right manual...

You are welcome!

Trow a way the old needles and use new ones! The machine runs best on one size thinner thread in the bobbin.

Good Luck!

I have a manual for the 4-4 Adler. It is in very frail c ondition, but could probably be photo copied. It is in German, if you still want one let me know.
