dirtclod Report post Posted September 22, 2010 Hicks i don't have a holster plate and never have had a problem using the plate that came on my machine a Pro 2000. The only plate that i have seen made for any of the machines that is really needed is a sturipp plate and only if your sewing a lot of sturipps. Art Report post Posted September 22, 2010 Hi JH, They can be quite handy when sewing gussets into bags, but aren't absolutely necessary. The ones for the Cowboy don't fit the Toro or the Cobra. Thanks for looking, JH. It depends on when you are stitching your holsters. If you stitch before wet mold the standard plate works just fine. If you are wet molding before stitching, then you'd want a holster plate. The holster plate allows a formed holster to be stitched nice and tight to the molded form. There's been a time or two I've considered a holster plate in order to change my process. But none of my regular designs need it. If your build process and holster design dictates that the holster be formed before stitching then go ahead and grab it. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
rickmoo Report post Posted December 19, 2010 i have a cobra 4 and tried the stirrup plate on a straight stitch. the feed dog has to be removed. the leather has to be pushed and i didn't see where it hrlped any. i also have a holster plate and the feed dog should be removed, although it doesn't hit the plate. the 1st. time i used it just to try a stitch i liked it. i tried it later and didn't like it. just another thing to get used to. you have to push yhe leather just the right consistency.
