Spinner Report post Posted September 22, 2010 Hey Folks, I'm trying to design an official logo for my soon to be official business and was looking to see what folks thought. Keep in mind, I'm trying to keep it simple so it will translate easily between a mark, address labels, business cards, etc. My lil sis in law took a minute to figure out what it was supposed to represent. Let's see if it was just her or the design. Thanks, Chris
King's X Report post Posted September 22, 2010 I would probably switch 'mutt' and 'customs'and have the letters read on the inside instead of the outside. Make sense? Other than that, it looks awesome!

Tina Report post Posted September 24, 2010 Keep in mind, I'm trying to keep it simple so it will translate easily between a mark, address labels, business cards, etc. My lil sis in law took a minute to figure out what it was supposed to represent. Let's see if it was just her or the design. Hi Spinner, I like the overall look of the logo but I have to put a small damp on it...This will work fine for some things and not as good for others. The text is way to small compare to the logo itself and will just wanish on a stamp for example. The font is another thing, you want people to be able to read it right away, to capture their intrest:-) If you look around in the "logo world" all the good ones is "KISS", easy to read (if any text), easy to understand and often a very simplified design without any guesswork of the meaning of it. Also have in mind how big/small you want a makers stamp to be = How much of the space of your work the stamp is going to be allowed to take... Now, I'm with your lil sis (in-law) I don't get it, I wish but??? I hope this helps you a wee bit on your way to the logo perfection:-) My very best advice to anyone making a logo is: Take your time, once you have one you have to live with it, maybe for a very, very long time. My own logo tock 6 moths or so to create. Have a fab day//Tina
douglais Report post Posted September 29, 2010 Looks like 3 eagle heads. I'm not liking how difficult it is to read. It's very powerful, graphically speaking, which is great, but I think it needs to go thru one more iteration to clarify things. Just takes too much dedicated concentration to get it. Has a fabulous look, but bring it along one more step, I'd say. do your customers a favor. Daggrim
Spinner Report post Posted September 29, 2010 Thanks for the feedback folks. As for the dog's heads in the triangle, I was going for a design that is there but not obvious so I think I nailed that part. Tina, I think you're right about the font. You and Douglais said the same thing most other have said, everyone like the graphic, even if they don't get it but the letters are too "fancy" to read easily, especially when broken up like they are. katsass Report post Posted September 30, 2010 Hey Folks, I'm trying to design an official logo for my soon to be official business and was looking to see what folks thought. Let's see if it was just her or the design. Thanks, Chris FWIW from the grumpy old man. I had to back off of your logo to see what it represented. It took me a bit. Your graphic arts abilities are great, however, in my mind your (any) logo should be immediately recognizable and..... immediately understood. Your logo, impressed in leather, may lose definition and become even less understandable. Even in today's modern business world I find most logos recognizable....but some less than immediately understood. To me, simple is best. I am no graphic artist, I cannot offer any alternative to represent quickly and simply the 'three mutts'. All I can say is that when a customer of mine commission's a piece, then receives it, the first thing generally done by him is to look for my mark, smile upon seeing it, then look at the product. As always, these are just the ramblings of a grumpy old man, take from them what you will. (A pic of my 'mark'.) Mike
320 Report post Posted September 30, 2010 spinner- you have strong graphic that really doesn't need to be supported by text as a logo (esp. if you use it as your maker's mark). for the work it appears you are doing it's just about perfect. a brand (literally and figuratively) without being cluttered with TMI. when you do letterheads, cards and the like then the addition of text will have some value. the only problem you're going to have is constantly explaining the meaning of your design. but at least folk are interested and asking. good luck with your plans.
