Hello From New England

Hey everyone,

Loving the forums. Have been lurking in the background doing some reading and checking out everyone's work. FIgured it was time to introduce myself. Name is Scott. I'm from Massachusetts and 26 years old. Decided to get into leatherworking while browsing the internet and finding a belt that I really liked. It was $130 for a very, very simple design. I thought to myself that I could make something like that for a fraction of the price with the same type of quality. A few hours later I came up with my first belt, and while I may not quite be at the same quality of the belt I would have purchased, I'm far more proud of it. Anyway, I'm excited to continue on with this hobby and see what things I can create.

A picture of my first completed belt. Haven't gotten into carving or anything yet. That's next. I wanted to get a feel of working with leather and putting it together.

Nice job Scott and welcome to LW. Next time burnish the edges of your belt. Cannot quite see what kind of leather you used, may not be able to burnish the edges on it.

I agree totally. That's a great belt... Wear it with pride! :)

By the way Scotty, I wouldn't be so convinced that your belt isn't of higher quality than the $130 version. Lots of leatherwork is now sourced from China... Big price tags for relatively mediocre quality.

Thanks for the kind words folks. I'm definitely hooked on this hobby now. I'm planning on starting my next belt soon. I learned a lot doing this one and am looking forward to carrying on that knowledge to the next one and seeing how I progress.
