American, Italian, German Vs China Machinery

I wanted to open up a new topic on Leather machinery makers and who to buy from. For years Green Man leather has been scooping up leather machinery to make its empire strong and with fast production. We have enjoyed using Adler, B.U.S.M , Italian equipement and American. Over the years I have seen a lot of newer leather machinery companies pop up and start selling China or Taiwan made machinery. I wanted to know how folks are finding their off shore machinery and if there are any issues with quality of the machines they use?

Money is tight to buy my double and single edge paintng machines for belts and other product lines. We saw Italian prices of 3400.00 brand new. I have been speaking to a Chinese supplier for the past weeks. He sells leather machinery at cheaper prices. I am enticed by the price 900 for the dbl edge painter and 650 for the single edge painter. Which is shipped via UPS and price INCL shipping. Alot of the machiney appears to be a direct copy of Bibo or other Italian models.

Ji, has been very knowledgeable with his product lines and appears to have a decent backround in our industry. I am wanting to buy from him but have not purchased Chinese made machinery in the past so worried about this. The sale would go through Aliaba and payment is secured via Escrow..

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and please be very factual on your experiences.

Yes Tat2 I agree I really like using the very same machinery you say your use. Well made parts available and the quality especially from Italy is the best! Never used anthing from China But I would suggest sticking to what you know and are familiar with!

For me it's matter of how easy is it to fix it and what does downtime cost? If the $4000 machine has a great reputation for never going down then that's a strong case for getting that. A machine may look another machine bit that doesn't mean that it works the same. I have a 6k Chinese laser enngraver/cutter. It's nowhere close to the 25k ULS laser we have in our shop in the USA. Had I the 25k then I would have bought it instead of this one. However this one was local and comes with support.

With Alibaba you have to be careful as some of the people you are dealing with are brokers and not manufacturers. I had one customer get a container full of junk after they spent 40k buying billiard supplies through a contact on Alibaba.

With that kind of price difference, you should consider buying two and having a spare or a second production area. I know that we go through this issue with IT gear all the time. We can buy one Cisco Catalyst 48-port switch at about $2500 plus annual maintenance fee, or we can buy two HP ProCurve 48-port switches with a lifetime warranty and no annual maintenance fee for about $900 each, and have one racked right below the other as a hot spare in case there's a a problem with the first one.

Guess which one we do?

I have some experience with R/C equipment for model planes from china. I'm very happy with it. In the most cases it lasts as long as german products and if not, i can buy two or three new motors/servos/batteries/whatever and would still nto have reached the german price

But that is experience with products that only cost some bucks. I would be more careful, if i have to spend 900$

My main concern would be reliability, and ease of service if it goes down. What can you afford for downtime? The machine is practically worthless if it isn't working.
