Members kan3malato Posted December 7, 2010 Members Report Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) HI all. I've got about 1 pound of beewax , the thing is, I use this cane of beewax for cleaning and feed wood tables, old fornitures, my shotguns (the wood part) , and so on... Now I was wondering is the beewax you use for leatherworking the usual beewax that people use even for wood. On the label of the cane beewax I have It reads" pure high quility of beewax with white spirit". Since I'm going to place a order about leatherworking tools, I would like to know if I can avoid to buy beewax or not. tnx in advance Edited December 7, 2010 by kan3malato Quote "What is life? Beeswax used for leatherwork is beeswax plus nothing. Hard, honey smelling, dark yellow, .............. It is not very expensive, get a small cake of it, you will probably find the other "wax" is nothing like the real stuff. Mine comes from the honey bee hotel I maintain out in the back yard. gtwister09 Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 Dwight is correct that leather beeswax is just beeswax. White spirit is just another name for mineral spirits that has been added to your compound to make it more easily penetrate as a finish. Regards, Ben Quote
Members Nutty Saddler Posted December 7, 2010 Members Report Posted December 7, 2010 Agree with the others - I use 100% pure beeswax , no additional substances . Colour varies with the type of local flower / plant the bees visit , the stuff I use is a light honey / straw colour. Quote
