tooslim2 Report post Posted February 7, 2011 hello guys first time posting anything so bear with me. I have been braiding rawhide for quite awhile and have gotten farly competent with most knots but am looking for instructions on how to tie the foundation knot for a long pinnapple knot. I for some reason cant figure out how to expand the turns to make a longer knot. I have B.G.s book and Gail Houghts bosal 2 and romel 1. She has some info on longer knots but the info for how to tie foundation knot is in a different book of hers. If some one could just explain how to add turns to the foundation to increase the length of the knot i would sure be greatfull. thanks again.
KnotHead Report post Posted February 7, 2011 I have attached a zip file that contains instructions. Just remember this one thing, any turks head or casa knot can be raised from the smallest foundation knot to a maximum width or length depending on how your perception is. The zip file contains a few extracts of pages that come from Tom Hall's book " Introduction to Turks Heads "... Once you have enlargement process 1 down, then we'll cover enlargement process 2. This process will be much easier to learn once the first process is learned. If you have anymore questions after going through these pages, please don't hesitate to post back here. If you have a good success at tying post back here with a photo of the work. We would like to see your work as you progress. The link to download this is below; Tom Hall Enlargement Process
curlyjo Report post Posted February 7, 2011 I tried to look at the next part of the long pineapple knot and was told it would cost me 29 dollars. Whats up? Brad
roo4u Report post Posted February 7, 2011 which bg book do you have? in the encyclopedia he shows the two bight turkshead of any length on page 376 and on page 378 the 3 bight turkshead. basically you wrap the strand around your object however many times you need and proceed with your over/unders just as you would a standard length t.h.knot then, just as in a standard th you just build the knot to as many bights as needed. broncstompinben Report post Posted February 7, 2011 I had alot of trouble with the same knot, mostly on the ends and mostly with multiple strings, Brian Neuberts Intro to rawhide braiding really helped me with the ends and getting a good symetrical knot. tooslim2 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 hey thanks guys for the info. Sorry it took me a couple days to get back to my computer. I should be able to figure it out now, I hope. Well thanks again. And in responce to one question I have B.G.s encycopeda. And it does show some longer knots but they all work out to a four bight knot I am trying to figure out how to make a long 6 or 8 bight over two under two type knot. megabit Report post Posted February 8, 2011 And it does show some longer knots but they all work out to a four bight knot I am trying to figure out how to make a long 6 or 8 bight over two under two type knot. The trick is to get to where you can increase the single X knot from 4 to 6 and understand the how and why of that. Then you just do the samething to the long knot (2X 3X...). Personally I find it easier to use multiple strings after about 2 or 3 X. (like a nose button)
roo4u Report post Posted February 8, 2011 ok so you have the encyclopedia...he shows the long turkshead on 376 and 378...if you can braid the standard size turkshead in the 6 or 8 bight size then use the instructions for the 2 or 3 bight long turkhead and just increase it the same way you do the regular turkshead, by building and splitting the pairs. once you get the o1u1 turkshead foundation then you can do the interweave for the u2o2 just like any turkshead. Nod4Eight Report post Posted February 8, 2011 ok so you have the encyclopedia...he shows the long turkshead on 376 and 378...if you can braid the standard size turkshead in the 6 or 8 bight size then use the instructions for the 2 or 3 bight long turkhead and just increase it the same way you do the regular turkshead, by building and splitting the pairs. once you get the o1u1 turkshead foundation then you can do the interweave for the u2o2 just like any turkshead. So, if I make a 2 bight 7 part (using instructions from 376 of the encyclopdeia) then I can raise it, just like going from a 4/3 to a 6/5 - and would end up with a 4 bight 9 part? I want to make sure I'm understanding.
roo4u Report post Posted February 8, 2011 well yes you raise it to 4 bight or more just like any other turkshead you just have more parts......the number of parts will depend on how long you are making your knot. i never count parts i just make the knots.
