Kate Report post Posted February 14, 2011 My apologies in advance to the Mods, I don't know where to post this other than the forum a certain person found me at. Preface with the simple fact that I believe strongly that what goes around, comes around, for good or bad. I try real hard to believe in the intrinsic goodness of "most" people and always try to help out someone if I can. I have an old Landis #1 harness stitcher, and the original complete manual for the machine. Over the years, I have made copies or sent scans of pages for others who have gotten an old Landis machine, and needed help. I usually ask for ten bucks to cover my postage and the CD that I burn for them - and have always felt pretty good about it. Well, up until Today, that is. Looked at my checking account and found a debit for ten bucks, PLUS a $12 returned item charge. Had the bank look it up for me, and it was that guy from Marion, Texas who I sent the CD a couple of months ago. I figured since he sent the check about 6 weeks after I sent the CD, that I was out the postage - no biggie, really. BUT when his wife (not him!) finally sent the check, it bounced - AND I got the fee too. So, I'm kinda ticked off. No, I am REALLY ticked off! Now if I find him posting copies of the manual to ebay or something, I'm going to have to show up on his doorstep with a horsewhip and improve his manners. So, do we upstanding people in this community have anything like a Wall of Shame to out the dirtballs who lie, cheat, steal or just in general contribute negatively to our craft and art? Thanks for letting me let off steam, boy this has got me fuming...

I could tell you many stories but won't bother. ferg
King's X Report post Posted February 14, 2011 If he is based out of Central Texas and one of our guild members....just let me know and I will collect all that is owed to you! I cannot believe it when this happens to nice people....just a shame!
Denise Report post Posted February 14, 2011 Kate, Have you given him the chance to make good on the payment owed and your bank fees. It may not be an intentional rip off. They may just have really poor money management skills or had a bad month or something. That really isn't an excuse, but it may be a reason for the problem. I sure understand your frustration, doing a good deed and then having to pay extra to do it! But sometimes going that extra step to see if things can be righted is worth it. Of course, sometimes it isn't worth it either! And that is your decision to make. Hopefully he sees himself on here and contacts you first. In any case, please don't quit giving to others like you have been. I know it has been appreciated by others.
Chief31794 Report post Posted February 14, 2011 This is terrible, hopefully it was a misunderstanding, I would contact him and give him the chance to do the right thing and cover your expenses. Sorry this happened to you. When I first saw the title of this post I thought you wanted a place to post really bad leather work, and I thought finally a place for me to show my stuff. As I said, sorry this happened, but in 61 years I've learned a few things and one of them is that sooner or later, people will disappoint you. If you have his email address you should send him a paypal invoice for what he owes in the notes section I would mention the bank fee. I am sure your not going to get paid but it would be worth it just for the heck of it. Edited February 14, 2011 by wwwrmbbladescom
Studio-N Report post Posted February 15, 2011 I remember a great story I read in a craft journal somewhere, where the author basically said when something like this happened she would basically mail them a nice letter letting them know she had put a curse on them and their house. The rest of the story was basically about how many people actually made good on their debts as a result. She would then send them a followup letter lifting the curse. what the heck, it's worth a try. Cheers!
tat2 Report post Posted May 28, 2011 Ya the issue with setting a curse or even stating you put a curse encourages bad energy to find you and then you have the misfortune of having it back in 3 fold. Great advice, we learn too from our errors. Paypal and money up front then the goods are sent out. I would call him too. the fact that he is making money off it now by reselling after not even paying is down right dirty I remember a great story I read in a craft journal somewhere, where the author basically said when something like this happened she would basically mail them a nice letter letting them know she had put a curse on them and their house. Jordan Report post Posted May 28, 2011 Really to bad, The reselling of info on feebay indicates he is a crook and you will not see a penny. Maybe turn him in for selling copy protected stuff, if it is. Or otherwise make his existence miserable. Probably not worth the trouble, and as was said earlier people will disappoint. It is real hard work to do the right thing all the time, that's why some don't.
cybertracy Report post Posted May 29, 2011 Wow, and he's republishing and benefiting from the manual you paid to send him. Karma can be a fickle lady and a hard one to put your faith in, as we rarely get to see her payback to those who wrong us, but seeing results in my own life (both awesome and not-so) I believe his is coming. At the very least, he's also got some NSF fees on his end too (ironically, probably more than your original charge), and most likely not just the one from your transaction. As for the curse method, my aunt once gave me advise in the road rage arena, when you curse, make it something ridiculous like donkey ears or forever losing the ability to speak English and it ends up being something you can chuckle about than letting it ruin your day or inviting bad energy rebound. Anyway, thanks for staying kind and may he wake up with fluorescent green eyebrows tomorrow.
Ken Nelson Report post Posted May 29, 2011 I had two people request a copy of a luberto's classic manual and the video which has become hard to find. I sent one a copy of the manual, asked for $10 for copy cost and postage. Sent the other a the original video and asked for a CD and the postage. Not a penny, Not a thank you. Last Time for me. Chief31794 Report post Posted June 1, 2011 Sorry I missed something. I didn't think Kate said he was selling copies on Ebay, she indicated that she would really be upset IF he was. He's still a deadbeat. Ken
Jordan Report post Posted June 2, 2011 Sorry I missed something. I didn't think Kate said he was selling copies on Ebay, she indicated that she would really be upset IF he was. He's still a deadbeat. Ken Her words were something like, she found he has been posting to ebay or something. Not sure but that sounds as if she thinks he is reselling what she sent him. Could be wrong though as it is sometimes hard to decipher a sentence like that. Jordan
BillB Report post Posted June 2, 2011 Very simple to check what she said by scrolling back to the top and you will see that she wrote: "Now if I find him posting copies of the manual to ebay or something, I'm going to have to show up on his doorstep with a horsewhip and improve his manners." I expect that when she began the sentence with "Now if I find ...." means it was not happening at that moment. hope this clears it up. BillB
